As part of the merger between Virgin America and Alaska Airlines, you can now apparently link accounts and transfer Elevate points over to Alaska Airlines' Mileage Plan program. The rate is 1 Elevate point to 1.3 Mileage Plan miles, which seems about right. Points can only be transferred in the one direction, presumably as the Elevate program will be eventually phased out.

What about the 10k bonus being widely touted on American blogs!

I am waiting for an invitation email from Alaska to create a new AS account (assuming they haven't picked up a link between my current AS account and VX account - not fussed since I have 0 AS miles).

In my case I do have both an Elevate and an Alaska account but they don't seem to have been able to validly link these.

I haven't linked my Elevate and Mileage Plan accounts but 10K bonus has turned up in my Mileage Plan account.
How does that work, I thought they were only going to people who had both Elevate and Mileage Plan and surely the only way they would know that would be that they were linked somehow?

I can only assume that they data matched on things like name, email, date of birth, address etc. But a family member also with both accounts hasn't received the 10K yet.

My first thought is whether this is an option for crediting VA flights (maybe post-status or an iregular VA flyer). AS miles can be very valuable. Earn rates for VX don't look great though-may need to get out the calculator

Having received my 10K bonus miles I have now received the email explanation.

Your memberships with Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan™ and Virgin America Elevate are paying off.
To celebrate your two favorite airlines coming together, we've awarded you 10,000 Mileage Plan bonus miles.
Redeem your miles on Alaska, Virgin America, or our global partner airlines to over 900 destinations worldwide. And, get 30% more miles when you convert your Elevate points to Mileage Plan miles.
Enjoy!
Sincerely,

Family member who didn't receive 10K got email offering 10K or $100 off next Alaska flight when activating new Alaska account. However email also said

Already a Mileage Plan member?
No need to activate a new Mileage Plan account if you already have one. Just let us know your existing account number here. We'll automatically deposit 10,000 bonus miles in your account.

I keep getting error messages after trying to join accounts together via that email link. I have emailed Alaska to try and rectify

Got this for my wife, so glad I joined here up in November to VX just to get some email list signup bones, now that 1500 points are worth 12K plus.

I also got an error message trying to do the same thing. Please let us know if you're able to resolve it.

I just tried again and it worked this time.
