Just wondered if anyone in AFF might know.

I booked Bangkok - Hanoi - Bangkok online. Am in Bangkok now and it is a public holiday in Bangkok until Thursday (Songkran). I fly out at 8 am Thursday morning.

I now realise I need a visa, I think, although total time in Hanoi will be less than 72 hours. Given that travel agencies and the Embassy here are shut, any ideas on how I might get a visa - or even if I definitely need one?

You definately need a Visa, I suspect you'll be denied boarding in BKK, but i've not a clue where youd get one at such short notice.

Good luck

As a last resort you could try for the Visa on Arrival, however with only 3 days to organise this you might be pushing it. No guarantee that it would be granted either.

Have applied for this seems 48 hours should be no problem at all. We will see.

Adding on here..... It appears no visa is required if in transit.. the phrase I found however said " if departing same day"...

Not quite the same thing.... the flights I am looking at would get in to SGN in the evening, then a morning departure...

Hmmmm......

In the interest of completeness Visa on Arrival was done and arrived by email here in Bangkok within 48 hours - despite it being a public holiday in Vietnam yeaterday. Kudos to hotels-in-vietnam.com who managed the visa for one quarter of what some others wanted.

Good news - pleased to hear that this worked for you.

.... and just to concur. I have just returned from a short visit to Vietnam. I used hotels-in-vietnam.com as recommended on AFF to arrange our Visa on Arrival. The system worked flawlessly :)

Great to know, good last resort option, i have always managed multi entry's in advance but a lats minute option is good.

If you just stay in the airport without stepping out, you are not required a vietnam visa for transiting. yet, If you go out, you still need one to have a legal entry. My experience is you can contact vietnam rush visa for 4 hour processing visa for super urgent service.
