OK, maybe I'm going crazy, or its some one off quirk.... but I just priced Sydney - Auckland, return in Economy on the Virgin website. The two flights I selected (outbound and inbound) cost $269.28 and $250.78 each ... however the total listed is only $440.06 (including taxes), instead of $520.06. I went through to the payment screen, and it still only listed $440.06. I fiddled around with a few different searches, and it seems to be an issue specific to Auckland flights?
I'm not complaining; I'm just wondering what is going on? Is this a common issue with the website; am I missing something obvious?
Also, I did I quick price comparator on the dates and times; Qantas was around $550 (so roughly similar to how the two Virgin flights should have priced); while Air NZ priced at $403 (closer to the cheaper price, albit without bag/food etc). If Virgin were intending to sell for the $440 to be competitive with Air NZ though, their search needs to show the right prices; it was only by chance I just selected the two flights and they priced together cheaper than what they should have (assuming that is what is going on).
