We're flying out of Canberra into Sydney with Virgin and then going onto Honolulu with Hawaiian Airlines. We usually fly internationally with Virgin so use the transfer desk to get our bags and ourselves over to the International terminal. Am I right in thinking we can't do this as we are flying with Hawaiian? The tickets weren't booked thru Virgin.
As this is probably the case what is the best way to do it? Train? I hate the stupid Terminal Bus as with luggage and a 2 year old I never can work out where to catch it from and it is always full of people.
Any advice is welcome.

I do the transfer fairly frequently (did it today actually) and always use the train. The Virgin transfer bus is a pain in the proverbial.

The train is only $4.xx each way.
