Virgin Short-Checking Luggage Experiences?

Hi All,

I'm travelling with Virgin this coming Sunday PER-SEA via Sydney. My transit time is 5 hours.

I've purchased a snowboard online that I want to pick up during my transit in Sydney to take on my trip, however the snowboard bag I have can't be folded up to fit inside a carry on due to some fixed wheels.

I'm hoping that Virgin might short check my luggage to Sydney if I explain the situation. I'm WP and flying J so I don't know if that will help in leniency. What has been your experience asking for VA to do this? Any success or will I end up having to buy another carry bag in Sydney?

No direct experience with VA, but I have done similar requests previously on multiple airline without any hassle at all (even without any status and flying in economy).

Stevens pass. First time boarding there, usually go to Tahoe as it's near the folks so nice to do something different

Wont be a problem doing a short check as it is an intradomestic sector. and you can also checkin additional bags again at Syd so long as within luggage allowance

Sounds good. I'm hoping a week at Alta comes off for early Feb. I'd invite you along, but you know ...Alta hey - they don't seem to like the boarders too much. I wonder what they think of monoskiers?

As Alta is national park, they cant stop you shredding down through Alta. Just can't ride their chair lifts.
1)Just go via Snowbird with a snowbird ticket.
2)Take Snowbird Aerial Tram (Gondola)
3)Make your way to back of Snowbird via the tunnel to mineral basin then take the lift up to the snowbird-alta boundary.
4)Shred
5)Then ring up Cliff lodge at Snowbird to pick you up from Alta for a $1-2 tip.
6)Rinse and repeat.

Monoskis, Skis, telemark are allowed at Alta. Again the "allowed" means being able to buy a ticket and ride their lifts.

Im happy for Boarders to shred at Alta but leave the Baldy Chutes to skiers please.

I like the way you think Quickstatus! I have no problems with boarders personally. Alta has long been on my dream list and next year I might just make it happen. Currently have a booking at the Alta Ski Resort Hotel, Restaurant & Venue | Snowpine Lodge , looks like it's going to be a quite a renovation.

There is currently a lot of snow in the Cottonwood Canyons and North America in general. Till Feb is a long time to be salivating.

The only downer @NateB is they may short check all your luggage as this makes it easier for them.

Yeah doesn't fuss me too much if it's both bags, just another thing to carry in the uber.

Not specifically with Virgin but I have checked baggage through to destination and short checked other luggage at same time.

Quick update, check in staff were super accommodating and said it was easy to do.

Can't wait to hit the slopes!
