Re: 'The Club' (DJ's CL)

Not saying QF should get rid of it, just saying not sure if it makes sense for VA to have 3 different lounges just yet...

Oh I see

Well, if VA want to knock off the money bags - their offer has to be the same or better!

Anyone considered the possibility yet that the "CL" and "WP" lounge could be combined? Effectively that's what QF have done for International with the Flounge - and to be honest it doesn't really seem worthwhile to me to have 3 separate lounges (QF only have CL in 3 domestic locations anyway don't they? MEL, SYD, CBR?)

There's one in every capital but DRW and HBA I recall, or one not the other.

Either way I wouldn't call the F lounge a combined CL/WP lounge as the OneWorld alliance is built around 2 lounges, basic and premium. Everyone always gets caught up on the J lounge because of how it's named but the fact is that's the premium lounge, it's basically the domestic F lounge.

I don't know DJ's numbers but I'd imagine if they were looking to reward big spenders like QF does with it's CL offering, while also rewarding higher flyers than usual like QF does with J lounges, then 3 lounges might be appropriate, but high flyers and people that spend a ton of money (or direct a ton of money) aren't the same sort of people ;)



I read somewhere a few months back that J/Plat lounges are next, once the club has been kicked off... I would not expect any new lounges any time soon... I'm ok with that, the DJ lounge is so far ahead of the Qantas Club in every way.

In every way is a very broad statement. I can't agree with that. They are pleasant to visit however I do enjoy the specialist assortments in the J lounge.

Can you really go past the Anzac cookies in the qantas club??

Don't forget the CL in PER.

DJ have also said the new SYD lounge would include a 'premium' lounge. They have not defined access requirements yet, but common logic would dictate it'll be a J/WP lounge (it's also been mentioned they'll open upstairs, close downstairs and renovate that).

They've made some subtle changes to the downstairs area already. I'm not sure why they'd do that to only rip it out in a month and start again.

Hi Everyone,

Looks like DJ has opened its CL equivalent at SYD this week,

Dom,

Wonder when we will see some photos.

Are they going to offer to match QF CL members.

I doubt it, and I doubt there will ever be any official comments on it either - undermines the purpose, that is if there was a club ;)

I may be wrong, but it sounds like the old AN lounge. A few of us were shown 'upstairs' (directly up some internal stairs) from the DJ SYD lounge last year by a kind staff member. It was the old AN lounge which was basically disused (apart from filming a DJ commercial, the props of which were still in place) since AN went belly-up in 2001. IIRC the staff member indicated it was going to be some sort of Plat lounge, but it seems it is aimed a little higher.

Im to young to Have been up there before, could someone give me an idea as to it's size?

According to Australian Business Traveller, "The upper floor will boast "sweeping views of Botany Bay" with total capacity (of both floors) for up to 560 passengers – 250 more than today."

So it could probably be inferred from that the second level is a decent size.

So they are going to have an exclusive CL style club for up to 560 people? This is firmly in the wild rumour category for me, ATM.

If you read the sentence in context it is total capacity of the SYD lounge not capacity of "The Club."

You mean the total capacity of the upper floor not the whole lounge. In context there is no mention of the entire lounge in relation to that number. But even 250 in the Club lounge? Wild rumour is still my opinion.

I thinks it whole lounge. Vest read in context of para before (dont have it in front of me) where the architect or whoever is talking about the totality of new lounge.

I certainly agree the number seems big, hence my comment originally. But I'm just not seeing the connection, the previous paragraph talks about talking over the upper level, the paragraph in question only mentions the upper level. I'm more than happy to concede that it is probably poor writing is to blame for the lack of clarity. The word "total" being the issue; is that the whole lounge or the upper floor (with a plat lounge and club lounge) in line with the rest of the words saying the upper floor. Also the whole lounge doesn't have sweeping views of botany bay.

“The (current) main lounge is on the lower level, there’s another mezzanine level upstairs which the airport have been using for functions" TGZ’s Tim Greer told Australian Business Traveller. “We’ll take over that space and have a two storey lounge.

The upper floor will boast "sweeping views of Botany Bay" with total capacity for up to 560 passengers – 250 more than today.
