'The Club' (DJ's CL)

It appears the DJ answer to CL has progressed somewhat:

Staff at Virgin Australia have been briefed on The Club, the invitation only ultra exclusive companion to the frequent flyer membership club, The Lounge.

The exclusive club, first disclosed in February, will be Virgin Australia’s answer to the Qantas Chairman’s Lounge.

I'm still confused as to where it is physically going to fit, especially in MEL.

Re: 'The Club' (DJ's CL)

A lot of talk about this.

It could be like what QF has done before and cut down the size of there current lounges to create another lounge.

Re: 'The Club' (DJ's CL)

Surely DJ should have a J Lounge or Plat lounge?
This move would make them quite unlike QF at least in SYD/MEL

I read somewhere a few months back that J/Plat lounges are next, once the club has been kicked off... I would not expect any new lounges any time soon... I'm ok with that, the DJ lounge is so far ahead of the Qantas Club in every way.

I'd say it's more modern and possibly fresh, but it's not ahead of the QP. The beer selection is better, but no spirits in the DJ lounge (which many people complain about, I have no issue with it). DJ's food is on par or perhaps a little worse than the QP too.

I'd say there different, and I prefer the smaller less crowded DJ lounges (well, most the time, peak hour it can be busy) to the generally crammed QP's (Where no J lounge exists anyway, even they're busy most the time and they are better than the DJ lounges).

DJ have also said the new SYD lounge would include a 'premium' lounge. They have not defined access requirements yet, but common logic would dictate it'll be a J/WP lounge (it's also been mentioned they'll open upstairs, close downstairs and renovate that).

[h=1]Virgin Australia prepares to discretely open ‘The Club’[/h]

Should someone discreetly tell him he can't spell?

As a journalist for >50 years surely he should know the difference between discrete and discreet?

It will be discrete by it's very nature. It will be separate and apart. It will probably be discreet as well, hidden behind an opaque glass door with no signage.

Re: 'The Club' (DJ's CL)

So the other night in BNE, I couldn't help but notice that there was a lot of construction taking place where the old temporary DJ lounge was located (across the walkway at the gate 41 exit). Curious, I went outside to have a peek through the window (albeit from the ground looking up to the next storey), and noticed that they had started replacing the old roof with the same pattern as in the new lounge - looks like we'll have either a new WP/J lounge, or a Club lounge... anyone know which it would be? Then in time as further capacity is required, they could always expand one (or both) of the lounges out over the roof of the valet area (would be expensive though). :)

So when is the CL status match coming out? (with the 2 flexi return, bonus 1000SC for no good reason, requlification requirements???)

Its the new Virgin Club, disco lights, dance floor, DJ (ha!) and over-priced bar.

My loyalty to QF is starting to loosen up and I now fly DJ quite a bit, but their lounges are definitely not ahead of QF in every way.. I think the new design is kinda tacky to be honest and prefer the older style (aka Canberra). The new format feels more like a bar than a lounge... VA are making great steps ahead, but the lounges need some work.. A business / plat lounge would be nice over a CL copy - probably get more use too!

I don't know about that. Perhaps its timing? I tend to travel at leisure times, even on business. DJ lounges, except PER, usually manage to feed me something other then bread, sliced meat and cheese, I almost _never_ get anything better then toast or crackers in a QP though.

Anyone considered the possibility yet that the "CL" and "WP" lounge could be combined? Effectively that's what QF have done for International with the Flounge - and to be honest it doesn't really seem worthwhile to me to have 3 separate lounges (QF only have CL in 3 domestic locations anyway don't they? MEL, SYD, CBR?)

No there is one in Brisbane as Bob Hawkes daughter slapped Blanche across the face in there.

IMO CL ensures that QF will retain the superior market share of business/Gov market. QF would be crazy to get rid of it!

Not saying QF should get rid of it, just saying not sure if it makes sense for VA to have 3 different lounges just yet...
