Hi guys,

Long time lurker to the board and first post so go easy!!

I've looked everywhere for the answer to this and even called the Virgin Money call centre but can't seem to get a straight answer.

With the Virgin Flyer CC and the 4 complimentary flights per year, if I purchase a flight and nominate my partner as the free flyer, will she receive any Velocity points/SCs for flying that sector? Also, will I receive my full quota of points and SCs that I would normally for flying that sector?

Hoping someone can help.

Cheers

Each person will receive normal status credits. The fare is split between each passenger on the booking and earns normal points. eg $100 fare earns 500 base points. Each passenger gets $50 - 250 points.

Thanks medhead!

FWIW- Virgin Money couldn't give me a definitive answer and Velocity told me that only the person paying for the flight would receive and points and SCs while the comp flyer would receive 0 SCs and points

I've had velocity try to pull a similar thing on me, claiming the second seat isn't eligible. But they put in a claim for points "as goodwill" and the SC came through. My situation was a bit different as my freebie was a second seat for me. But others here have got the points and status without a hassle.

I used this between Christmas & NY for flights MEL-CNS with Jnr#2. We both got points and SC's.

A cautionary note: I suspect that part of the reason these earned SCs was a quirk of the old booking system. It may not necessarily be the same under sabre.

Not saying it won't but it was a bug not a feature until now.

Hmmm. That's interesting. I didn't know that.

Surely it will be applicable for the next six months at least?

I can let you know when my flight from Sunday afternoon posts. It was a 2-for-1, although I did deploy a couple of plat upgrades so the fare basis became ZUPGD. I can't see any way to find the original booking class on the e-ticket.

Interesting point. Could quite easily have been a bug. Either way with points and/or SC or nothing for the free flights this is an exceptional feature of this Virgin Card (and Virgin) and a major reason why I choose to with VA exclusively these days domestically.

Ive always been able to use this feature for any flight Ive tried to book. There has never not been availability.

A disappointing change to the 2-4-1 policy

I've been trying to book 2-4-1 flights with my Virgin CC credit card with the new Sabre system this week (if you're really cluey you'll know why) and was advised today that the second passenger must now pay all fees and taxes associated with their 'free flight'. I followed this up with the social media team and they confirmed it - they're currently updating the Virgin Flyer website etc to advise of the change in policy.

Given the taxes on the 'free' flight can easily be 40 - 50% of the normal fare price on cheap Saver Lites and you cannot use this offer on sale fares, I daresay you will pay about the same to just buy 2 sale fares rather than one full price and one 'taxes only' flight and it will be much, much quicker as you can book it online. This has taken away what is the only real benefit of this credit card if you only want to book Saver fares - their website is hands down the worst website I have EVER used, their call-centre is useless etc.

In my example I wanted to book a return MEL-ADL-MEL Saver Lite. The flights to buy were $200 return each. I was quoted $300 return for 2 people (i.e. the second person pays fees and taxes of $100). This route is often on sale for $79 - if we booked 2 people return that would be $316.

If you are booking Flexis and J with this offer great, but the benefits been all but taken away for Savers.

Re: A disappointing change to the 2-4-1 policy

I hope that they dont screw with the 2-4-1 fligts too much (as far as points and sc's are concerned) - it was the deciding factor in me switching to Virgin from Qantas late last year.....

That's horrendous. Can they truly claim "2-4-1" then? Gah I only got mine a month back was about to use it after the Sabre dust had settled, very very disappointing.

Care to explain why? I'm about to book one, but was going to wait a few weeks... Maybe I shouldn't? Not sure why? :S

There is some concern that Virgin may have changed the fees & charges in relation to these bookings. Personally, I am going to wait until the dust settles on the website transition and see what eventuates.

I've already used the card for a redemption on a flexi which I upgraded to business with points. If everything stays pretty much as was, I'll certainly be sticking with it. I saved hundreds $$$.

Go for it :D

Re: A disappointing change to the 2-4-1 policy

Oh dear... within days of me getting Velocity Gold and getting a Virgin Flyer card, all the benefits start disappearing... maybe it's me?

I have to say, at this rate, my loyalty to Virgin is fast diminishing. Perhaps the trip to London will just be on the best deal (especially as Premium Economy is currently more than Business on some other airlines). It would have got me to Platinum though.

Person in office booked one of these flights today. Only one lot of taxes.

Really?! Maybe I should try again. Did they just go through the Guest Contact Centre?

On Facebook they are advising customers that only team leaders can make these bookings after calling the Velocity number.

Yeah, I believe so, they rang a number of times over about 3 days. Didn't even put in their velocity number or mention it the first couple of times. Eventually demanded to speak to a supervisor, had a long discussion and hung up with no booking. Someone rang the next day and it was all sorted.

I have got this credit card also recently but always travel alone.

If I chose to redeem the 2 for 1 flight offer does the other person have to be my partner or related or can I nominate anyone?
