Virgin Bali expansion, next up CBR-DPS

Virgin needs to do something with DPS the are losing market share to JQ.

I think MCY-DPS was a missed opportunity.

Outside of that Darwin, Hobart are a few options.

Note sure for MCY, I am on JQ in 10 days so will see.

Agree, I think once they get the full fleet of 737 MAX-8s (and eventually MAX-10s), we will see VA aggressively expand into DPS. HBA would be good, so would ADL, and then of course there's now less competition on CNS-DPS and DRW-DPS with AirAsia exiting, so VA has options, they just have to act quick to stop JQ's growth

Agree. they were smart to start CBR-DPS, but they also need to compete directly with JQ to reduce their market share of DPS flights, ADL, DRW, CNS would be good places to start

I think they also need to target JQ on other intl routes, take Perth for example, VA should start PER-MNL, PER-HKT, PER-BKK, all within range of their MAX-8s, would also boost velocity earnings a lot as well by opening up new intl routes
God I'm glad you don't work in VA cause you'd make them bust again.
explain how?

What would you do if you were VA ceo?
Listen to what the professionals suggest, some of whom have survived many CEOs, such as Mathew Yarrow in network planning, Joshua Dorsey, head of fleet and long term planning , as well as Chris Ghea, head of fleet planning and optimisation.

Going head to head with the low cost competitor outside of capitals who runs a high density configuration isn’t the best idea. They needed to hit up MCY-DPS before Jetstar did. Just like they held the monopoly on OOL-DPS for considerable time. Virgin needs to fight for more capital city to Bali rights, they had the opportunity in prior times but blew it.

Virgin historically hasn’t been that successful on the International front, Bali/Pacific Islands is about the only success they have had. I’d be careful going too hard on that front, we can’t go back to the old days of cash burn.

There was a lot wrong with the old VA aside from the Bali/pacific network. I do agree that they should try and fly to dps on routes JQ aren’t already doing, but all that’s left is really Hobart, Townsville and maybe a few other small niche routes

Virgin is a completely different airline compared to pre-covid where they were losing hundreds of millions of dollars for years and years. VA is much stronger financially now, so they have the ability to compete strongly against JQ, another factor is velocity, which is performing so well and is a huge profit engine for VA, they shouldn't be underestimated and I think their CBR-DPS flights are just the first signal of something much bigger to come in the years ahead
