The $1k credit is nice but the real lucrative part of most airline staff travel is the Long Haul J class on your or partner airlines via myID.

Note also staff partner airline are often different to custome facing one. VA depth of partnership is quite extensive.

For example VA staff have access to QR J SYD-DOH-LHR one way for about $800ish total cost per pax. Fixed price. As long as there’s a spare J seat. Also note not all QR staff get access to QR J / believe J access was also removed from QF staff.

Note there a variety of ranking that come in to play if multiple staff on same flight. These are unique per partnership.

Eg
-generally staff will have higher ranking on their employing airline flights than other airline staff
-time of booking
-time of checkin
-seniority / tenure
-staff code (senior management higher ranking)
-leisure vs duty (work) booking

IME staff if on Leisure booking will always be ranking below rev pax.

Duty / deadhead staff travel are different as typically they’re confirmed and their seat taken out of inventory sale.

The prices actually fluctuate.
