Oh wow, thanks for that. so even if I manage to book VA1 and an onwards flight from Doha on the same ticket, they don't check you through? How easy is it to re-check in at Doha?

They can but I know numerous people that were knocked back. I was advised by lovely check in agent not to do it as the luggage often gets lost.
Doha is easy just make sure you have enough time

They will check it through if it's on the one ticket.

Regardless if the one ticket has both VA codes (the wetlease and the onward VA codeshare) or they have both QR codes (the QR 'codeshare' on the VA wetlease and the onward QR flight).

If it's separate tickets it's up to the first check-in person or the station manger whether to allow it.
