Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

VA362, the Tuesday 18 June 0555 TSV - BNE has B738 VH-YFS and was airborne at 0650, so arrival at gate should be roughly 0820 hours, 35 minutes down.

VA1508 with VH-YWE (B738) is the 1225 hours MCY - MEL on Wednesday 19 June, airborne exactly an hour later. Arrival should be at 1543 hours, 48 minutes late.

VA331 (VH-VUK, the 1400 hours MEL - BNE in the sky at 1447) should arrive at its designated gate at roughly 1641 hours, 31 late.

Wednesday 19 June's redeye VA46 from DPS down to BNE, the 2320 hours (B738 VH-YIO) did not take off until 0500 hours on Thursday 20, so tired passengers will arrive at about 1201 hours, 306 minutes late.

This aircraft yesterday had been at least an hour late on VA43 from BNE to DPS then VA130/131 DPS - DRW - DPS but then after arriving on 'the 131' at 2330 hours last night, 70 late, spent hours on the ground.

Unfortunately this plane looks to be forming VA43 today (1010 hours BNE - DPS morning offering) so that will be delayed in pushback until at least 1315 hours.

VA714 (Thursday 20 June, the 0900 hours PER - ADL with F100 VH-FSW) took off at 1019 so arrival has been put back to 1439 hours, 79 late.

This is instructive (re an inoperable B773ER in LAX.) QF has had the same occur with A388 VH-QPA (although different reason: hit by catering truck.)

VA813, the Friday 21 June 2019 scheduled 0715 hours MEL - SYD was airborne at 0806 with B738 VH-YFQ. A 37 late arrival at 0917 hours is the prediction.

VA412 (VH-YFH, the 0840 hours SYD - ADL airborne at 0931) looks to be arriving at 1055 this morning, 35 late.

VA342 (BNE to MEL, B738 VH-VOP) was in the sky at 1742 late this afternoon (Friday 21 June), 47 minutes after scheduled pushback, so delayed arrival is 1955, 35 late.

The 1705 hour afternoon BNE down to SYD, VA970 was airborne at 1801 with at gate arrival for B738 VH-YIB likely at 1922, 42 behind.

On Saturday 22 June, VA1576 (F100 VH-FNR, the 0700 hours DRW down to ASP airborne at 0837) should arrive at 1025 hours, 85 minutes tardy.

Due to the continuing unavailability of B773ER VH-VPH (marooned in LAX - see two posts back), VA7/VA8 BNE - LAX and return continue to be badly affected.

Thursday 20 June's VA8 normally pushes back in LAX at 2230 hours for a Saturday 22 arrival early at 0530, but this flight was rescheduled to 1000 hours on Friday 21, taking off at 1028. Saturday arrival in BNE should be at 1700 hours, 690 minutes late. VA7, the 1105 hours morning BNE - LAX will be unable to push back until at least 1900 hours tonight. VH-VPF is the aircraft.

New AFFer KAH has kindly reported this in its own thread:

Boeing 773ER VH-VPH has now landed at VCV in California at 1410 hours on Saturday 22 June 2019. That means is was at LAX for a little over eight days. With extensive facilities, the fuel tank issue may now be resolved.

Virgin Australia has been scrambling to manage with only four of its five long haul Boeings in operational condition. VA have started non-standard timings to cover demand. A number of daylight flights from LAX to BNE and MEL have now operated or are scheduled.

The disrupted passengers have reported poor handling by VA with delays of days and an unwillingness by VA to use QF to get passengers to their destinations with more limited delay.

One example of the altered LAX flights is the Sunday 23 June 2019's VA23 from MEL to LAX, normally an 1135 hours late morning departure. This has been 'retimd' to depart at 1950 hours tonight, 495 minutes late.

On Saturday 22, VA7 departed BNE at 1916 hours, with same day LAX arrival at 1516 hours, again hours late.

Sunday 23 June's VA1, the scheduled 0930 hours SYD - LAX is not as bad, but still late, taking off at 1111 hours with VH-VPD.

In another delay due to the unavailability of one B773ER (see above), VA24, normally a late night departure from LAX, became an 0905 hours scheduled ex LAX on Saturday 22 June, taking off at 1036 with Sunday 23 MEL arrival for B773ER VH-VPE suggested as 1852 hours, 787 minutes late compared to the usual 0545 hours early morning arrival.

VA23 (see above) won't be off blocks by 1950 tonight, its altered schedule. It'll be more like 2035 or later.

While AFFer jb747 recently gave us what turned out to be a 'red herring' fog warning for the next morning for BNE, MEL and SYD airports - not his fault, just the way it didn't materialise as much as predicted- tomorrow (Monday 24 June) may have more severe fog in Melbourne.

VA1361 (Monday 24 June, the 0620 hours LST - MEL airborne on time at 0631) is arriving at 0750, half an hour late with B738 VH-VUP as it had to deviate via north of Foster, Vic account MEL congestion.

The 0555 hours BNE - MEL took off in a timely fashion at 0608 but VH-VUZ's arrival will be delayed until approximately 0852, 32 late.

VA206 (VH-YFS, the 0635 hours ADL - MEL airborne on time at 0648) is holding south of Bendigo so if MEL remains open - fog is a threat - arrival should be at 0902 hours, 37 late.

B738 VH-VOP on VA401, first of the morning at a scheduled 0600 hours from ADL to SYD was in the sky at 0628, about 15 late, but arrival is delayed until 0905, 45 late.

VA811 (A332 VH-XFC, the 0700 hours MEL up to SYD) was airborne at 0735 with arrival an expected 50 minutes tardy at 0915 hours.

The OOL down to MEL VA726 has VH-VUH and should arrive at 0945, 50 late. VA730 (VH-VUT) is another OOL - MEL that is arriving 50 late at 1205 hours.

Later on Monday 24 June, VA832 (1030 hours SYD - MEL, B738 VH-YFG) was airborne at 1126 with a 1241 hours, 36 minute late arrival the prediction.

VA555, the 0935 hours mid morning SYD across to PER has A332 VH-XFC and was in the sky at 1103, so expected arrival is 52 late at 1337.

Continuing with Monday 24 June's many delays, VA1323 (B738 VH-VOL, the 1235 hours lunchtime HBA - MEL airborne at 1348) should arrive at 1454, 64 late.

Another long delay due to one of VA's five B773ER's being inoperable at Victoriville, California as a problematic fuel tank is attended to sees, on the evening of Monday 24 June, VA23, normally the 1135 hours late morning MEL - LAX take off at 2101. Same day arrival is estimated as 1743, 523 minutes behind schedule for B773ER VH-VPD.
