Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

On Sunday 26 May 2019, VA9051 from PER up to PBO (F100 VH-FZH, the 1030 hours) was airborne at 1157 so arrival should be at 1328 hours, 73 late.

Although it did not have to hold, VA810, the Monday 27 May 2019 scheduled 0715 hours SYD - MEL (B738 VH-YWD) that took off at 0752 may have been on ATC-imposed speed restrictions (due to 'traffic') as its arrival is not until 0920, half an hour behind schedule.

VA82, the Monday 27 May 1950 hours HKG redeye down to SYD did not take off until 2333 hours. Arrival on Tuesday 28 should be 1013, 183 minutes late. As a result, VA555, the 0935 hours SYD to PER will be delayed until at least 1145, though this seems optimistic as the aircraft has to transfer from the international to the VA domestic terminal.

VA274 (Tuesday 28 May, the 1500 hours CBR down to MEL not airborne until 1607) is arriving at 1705, 55 late with B738 VH-YFT.

Into the evening of 29 May, northbound V347 (B738 VH-VOK), the 1800 hours MEL - BNE airborne at 1849 should be at its destination gate at roughly 2045 tonight, 35 late.

VA888 (B738 VH-VUO, the 2000 hours evening SYD down to MEL was in the sky at 2113. Consequently arrival looks to be 2228, 53 late.

VA500 (the 0600 OOL to SYD, B737 VH-VBZ) did not take off until 0811 hours on Thursday 30 May 2019, so arrival is at 0919, 109 late.

The ADL to SYD VA407 (VH-YFV) is the 0700 hours in the sky at 0741, with arrival suggested as 0950, half an hour late.

VA1174 (ATR72 VH-VPI), the 0805 hours SYD down to ABX took off at 1021. Arrival should be 1132 hours, 122 late.

The 2230 hours late night Tuesday 27 May 2019 VA8 from LAX to BNE was delayed overnight, departing at 0829 hours on Wednesday 29 for Thursday 30 arrival at about 1550 hours, 620 minutes late for B773ER VH-VPF.

This has meant VA7, the 1105 hours BNE - LAX (Thursday 30) is delayed until at least 1730 in pushback.

VA1615, the Friday 31 May MEL - MQL due to depart at 0940 hours did not become airborne until 1035. Arrival for B738 VH-VUK should be at 1128, 43 late.

VA827, the 0900 hours MEL - SYD did not take off until 1051 so B738 VH-YWE will not arrive until 1158, 93 laqte. A delay of this magnitude guarantees this plane will be late all day unless a return rotation is cancelled.

The 1005 hours MEL - ADL, VA201, took off at 1101 with VH-VUT. A 40 minute late arrival at gate at 1140 is the projection.

VA748 OOL-MEL was scheduled for 1700, still sitting on the tarmac due to an engineering fault. No ETA.

Assuming that another aircraft cannot be substituted, this will delay VA895, the 2030 hours MEL - SYD by at least an hour.

VA278 (1700 hours CBR down to MEL in the sky at 1722) is arriving at 1841, 36 late with B738 VH-VOT.

The 1600 hours AKL - MEL, VA168 was in the sky at 1712 with VH-YIR. Arrival should be at 1931, 81 late.

On Monday 3 June, B738 VH-YFY on VA809, the 0645 hours MEL - SYD that was airborne at 0721 should arrive at 0841, 31 late.

With much rain at MEL, delays are building with VA817, the 0745 hours MEL - SYD (B738 VH-YFE) not in the sky until 0839, about 40 late.

The following VA819, the 0800 hours ex MEL pointed skywards at 0850 so arrival for VH-VUF should be 34 late at 0859 hours.

VA1316 (VH-YFL, the 0825 hours MEL down to HBA in the sky at 0908) should arrive at 1012, 32 late.

VA678 from PER across to MEL on 3 June, B738 VH-YIE is the 0700 airborne at 0729. Arrival looks to be 40 late at 1315 hours.

With the weather shaping up to be a wild day from the NSW south coast all the way up to Kempsey, I have no doubt that there will plenty of delays/cancellations. At this stage I have a 4 sector day tomorrow including the airports of NTL, BNE, SYD and OOL.

The underlined says that from 03 2000 UTC (6am local), wind is 200ºT 40 gusting to 55kts, visibility 7000m in Showers of Rain, Cloud Few 1000ft, Scattered 1500ft Broken 2000ft.

The TEMPO is Temporary periods up to 60mins in length between 6am and 1pm local time visibility dropping to 3000m in heavy showers of rain with cloud Boken at 800ft.

Enjoy the challenges. (Better you than incompetent me).

AviatorInsight, one thing we haven't discussed for a while but continuing to be the case is how almost consistently, domestic airline punctuality for all operators is better between SYD and BNE/OOL/MCY as a group rather than SYD and MEL/AVV.

It's not super stunning northwards, but often terrible southwards.

MEL on its own is busier than BNE but with the latter's lack of infrastructure one might expect the reverse re timekeeping to be true. Bad that the world's second busiest domestic airline route has so much late running (plus cancellations, some of which may be due to stagnant passenger numbers and hence poorly patronised flights are on occasion combined, especially when there's a timetabled 15 minute or half hourly frequency).
