Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

VA692, also a Thursday 18 April flight has B738 VH-VOO and is the 1525 hours mid afternoon PER across to ADL airborne at 1735, and for which arrival is expected at about 2227 tonight, 87 late.

The 1755 hours BNE down to MEL, VA346, took off at 1949 so arrival is at 2206, 106 late.

Northbound VA761 (MEL - OOL) has B738 VH-YFW and comparatively speaking is unscathed with estimated at gate arrival tonight to be 2256 hours, 31 late.

Easter Sunday's (21 April 2019) VA866, the scheduled 1700 hours late afternoon trip that took off at 1749 (B738 VH-VUG) is arriving at 1909, 34 late.

On Easter Monday (22 April 2019), VA713, the early morning 0615 hours ADL across to PER had a very late start, not becoming airborne until 0805. Arrival should be 0938 hours, 83 late for F100 VH-FSQ.

As at 1028 hours, VA171 (B738 VH-YIR), the 0900 hours SYD - WLG was still taxiing, so it will be at least an hour late arriving in teh Windy City.

VA347 (1800 hours early evening Monday 22 April MEL - BNE) has been cancelled while VA875, the identically timed departure to SYD is expected to depart at 1855.

The 1905 hours MEL - CBR, VA289, is predicted to push back half an hour late.

On Tuesday 23 April, VA184 from NAN to MEL (B738 VH-YIT) is arriving at 0036, 51 late.

VA565 (Monday 22, the scheduled 1745 hours SYD across to PER with B738 VH-VUP) did not take off until 2213. Arrival should be at 0035 on Tuesday, 220 minutes late.

Calling AviatorInsight (if on hols., when back in 'the office'): VA697 on Monday 22 April 2019, the timetabled 2045 hours MEL - PER (A332 VH-XFH) seems to be taking a most unusual track to its destination, going far further north than is usual. It took off at 2224 so with the deviation seems to be more than 90 late. As I watch it at 0042 AEST on Tuesday, it looks to be east of Warburton WA.

On Tuesday 23 April 32019, B738 VH-YIY on VA140, the 0730 hours AKL across to SYD was in the sky at 0836, so expected arrival is 0950, 35 minutes tardy.

VA278, the Friday 26 April 2019 scheduled 1700 hours CBR down to MEL took off if anything a little early at 1706. ATR72 VH-RVR may however have been slowed down by control as arrival is showing as 1856, 31 late. Some aircraft are holding.

VA1508, the 1225 hours Sunday 28 April MCY - MEL (B738 VH-YFY) was still taxiing at teh Sunshine Coast airport at 1330 so is likely to be at least 45 minutes tardy into the southern capital. VA1510, the 1320 hours ex MCY next one is close behind. Often it's a lottery as to which flight will be punctual or late.

Later on Sunday 28 April 2019, VA878 (1830 hours peak time SYD down to MEL not airborne until 1959) has B738 VH-VUA with arrival predicted at 2101, 56 late.

ABF SmartGates at MEL, SYD and BNE apparently failed at around 0600 hours on Monday 29 April 2019, so the inevitable result is extremely long queues of passengers waiting to be manually processed. If I recall, there are fewer outwards desks for ABF staff with SmartGates than was the case before these were widely in use, so that won't assist timeliness.

As the peak time for departures to Asia starts in an hour at the three major east coast airports, expect flights to incur delays through no fault of their own or the airline staff. Even if all passengers for a flight were checked in an hour before scheduled departure, it's unlikely flights would get away on time. At departures immigration, it would be difficult to 'call forward' passengers whose flights were almost scheduled to depart.

VA1, the 0930 hours SYD - LAX is predicted to depart half an hour late while the 0900 hours VA171 (SYD - WLG) should depart at 1130 hours.

UPDATE: The expected departure for VA1 is further delayed to the strange time of 1029 hours.

FURTHER UPDATE: B773ER VH-VPH on VA1 took off from SYD at 1116 hours so an 0638 hours, 33 late arrival is expected in LAX.

Also on Monday 28 April, VA833 (B737 VH-VBY, the 1000 hours MEL up to SYD in the sky at 1040) should arrive at about 1201, 36 late after holding at the usual position above Goulburn.

VA171 on 29 April (see above) from SYD to WLG incurred a greater delay than projected, pushing back at 1201 hours, 181 late. Arrival for B738 VH-YIL is suggested as 1653 hours, 158 late.

The late morning 1135 hours SYD - MCY (V482, B738 VH-YIE) was in the sky at 1249 so arrival should be 1411 hours, 61 late.

VA808 (B738 VH-VUR) is the Tuesday 30 April 0700 hours SYD - MEL in the sky at 0727. With MEL looking as if it's down to single runway operations, the plane had to hold above Mt Buller for several circuits so arrival is delayed until 0912 hours, 32 late.

VA810 (VH-VOO) is the 0715 hours ex SYD and is similar, with projected at gate arrival of 0920, half an hour late, this flight having taken off at 0737.

The 0805 hours short hop CBR up to SYD took off at 0857 with ATR72 VH-VPI. Arrival looks like 0951 hours, 46 minutes behind the schedule. Fog occurred in CBR this morning. Also delayed was VA256, the 0845 hours CBR down to MEL that took off at 0930 with B738 VH-VUI, for which estimated arrival is 32 late at 1027.

In further on 30 April 2019, VA167, the 0930 hours midmorning MEL - AKL was airborne at 1040 so expected arrival is 1604, 59 late. B738 VH-YIM has the task.

Later on 30 April 2019, VA1354 from DRW down to SYD, the 1415 hours that took off at 1524 (B738 VH-VUZ) should arrive at 1957, 57 late.

Thursday 2 May 2019 finds VA9941 (B773ER VH-VOZ), an 0745 hours MEL - SIN, having taken off at 0826 hours. Is this to undergo maintenance in Singapore?

Much later on 2 May 2019, VA660 (ATR72 VH-FVG, the 1705 hours SYD - CBR airborne at 1812) should arrive at 1902, 57 late.

The DRW - SYD VA1354 has B737 VH-VBY and is arriving at 2052 hours, 82 late.
