Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

VA1 (B773ER VH-VPD), the 1115 hours SYD - LAX on Sunday 17 February 2019 departed at 1205 hours. It was airborne at 1226 with same day arrival suggested as 0635, half an hour late. Of its last 64 flights,32 per cent have been what website FlightStats calls (but does not define) 'very late' or 'excessive.'

Not good timekeeping.

In further on Sunday 17 February, VA239, the 1740 hours MEL - ADL is forecast to depart an hour late.

VA850, the mid afternoon 1500 hours SYD - MEL with B738 VH-YFT at 1612 hours was still some time from taking off so it will be more than an hour late arriving in the southern capital.

VA1628 (17 February 1235 hours AYQ - SYD airborne at 1602) should arrive at 2015 tonight, 185 late with B738 VH_VUG. Despite the outbound VA1627 being its first flight for 17 February, the aircraft was similarly late travelling to Ayers Rock.

On Tuesday 19 February, VA69 (1100 hours MEL up to HKG, A332 VH-XFC) took off at 1226 so arrival is delayed until a predicted 1831, 56 late.

Thursday 21 February sees VA134 (0540 hours earlybird from CHC to SYD that took off at 0617, B738 VH-YIS) arriving at -741 hours, 36 late.

VA1535 (Thursday 21 February 2019, the 1635 hours HBA - SYD that took off exactly half an hour later, about 15 minutes late) has B738 VH-YFN and is arriving at a probable 1907 hours, 42 late. At 1825 hours it was holding in the favoured position above Goulburn.

VA882 (1900 hours SYD - MEL) had not taken off by 1956 hours.

The 1815 hours MEL up to SYD, VA877 (VH-VUS) was airborne at 1833 so arrival after its twin holds will be at 2017, 37 late.

VA808 (Friday 22 February 2019, the 0700 hours SYD - MEL that took off at 0744 with B738 VH-YFZ should arrive at approximately 0906 hours, 31 late. It incurred a hold in the usual favourite above Mt Buller area. Many aircraft are holding into MEL as it appears to be down to single runway operations.

Not sure how the proposed MEL third runway will make operations as are occurring this morning any more efficient. One AFFer a while back implied it was in the wrong position.

Much later on 22 February, VA742 (1400 hours OOL - MEL airborne at 1544) has B738 VH-VOLO and should arrive at 1842, 82 late.

On Sunday 24 February, VA1291 (0855 hours MEL - CNS) was expected to depart at 0950, but is even later. A delay of this magnitude guarantees that other flights (post its return from CNS) will be delayed on a busy Sunday afternoon, unless a round trip somewhere is cancelled.

UPDATE: VA1291 (B738 VH-VOP) looks to have diverted via TSV, arriving CNS at 1513 hours, 273 minutes late. It formed VA1294, the scheduled 1200 'high noon' CNS back down to MEL that was ion the sky at 1559 with an expected arrival at 2000 hours tonight, 215 minutes tardy.

VA9 big delay tonight. I'm supposed to be on it but they aren't sure it's going to actually fly - have been changed to fly out of Sydney tomorrow morning instead.

On Sunday 3 March 2019, the redeye from HKG to MEL (VA68, A332 VH-XFD) should arrive at 0956, 86 late.

As a result, the domestic VA683 (1100 hours MEL across to PER) is expected to depart an hour late. The flight after that (VA562, 1530 hours mid afternoon PER - SYD) should (in theory) not be adversely affected, unless the delay to 683 increases.

VA304 (Monday 4 March's 0555 hours early morning BNE down to MEL airborne at 0639, around half an hour late) has VH-VUF (B738) and should arrive at 0947, 32 minutes behind time.
