Virgin Australia changes to carry on baggage allowance effective 2 Feb 2026

Not quite new

Personally, I check my wheelie bag, as I have osteoarthritis in my right shoulder and really can't lift a suitcase that high. And I don't expect others to help me lift it.

I just take a tote bag on as my carry on. And it goes under the seat. And then I sit and just watch everyone else try to find space..... It's amazing how much stuff goes up top.
I also have a problem with the weight.
How do you get it off the carousel?

They were checking carry-ons at MEL tonight, carry-ons over 8 kg were kindly informed of the weight restrictions, and we're suggested to transfer stuff into their personal (under the seat) bags.

First time encountering this on VA. Significantly less aggro than JQ, if this is the way forward, I personally have no complaints.

No one has mentioned that most carry on wheeled bags I see on Australian domestic flights are oversize!! And shouldnt even be carried on regardless of weight..
