Yes it's nice, because it's new, but for me (admittedly a traditionalist) it really lacks warmth. It doesnt look anymore inviting to me than a gate lounge. Nothing about it says peaceful, quiet and relaxing. I've no doubt that many people will love it, but it has the same kind of sterility about it that a food court has. Minus a screaming child or two.

I agree. You don't get much more warmth than the QF BNE J lounge on a sunny day.

Probably security issues involved but the rotunda area would make an awesome balcony/ beer garden type area. I love a bit of an outdoor area at an airport and the BNE climate lends itself to it pretty nicely.

The GW in Perth had a nice outdoor area, so did gates 16 to 21 at BNE until they filled it in.

I for one love the lounge, and love the "space odyssey" feel about it! (which happens to be my favorite movie)

As he says, White is a cool and cold colour, the purple will balance it back out, which is clean, white is clear white is pure, the purple will balance it back out . It seems this is what is done with the lounges, mostly white with the purple lights which are really nice.

Meh! Looks like every other corporate space I've ever been into, especially with the eames styled furniture. Truth to be it's a but cafeteria-like.

I visited the BNE lounge yesterday and I was extremely impressed. The decor is bright, modern and very relaxing. I really like the layout with a pleasant quiet spot to the right and right again.The furniture is comfortable, clean and I like the wavy desk set up.

The Diablo shiraz is a great drop and the beer fridge is very impressive. Also located near Liam's toasted sandwich machine.

The Golden Wing lounge in the old BNE domestic terminal was very small and was nearly always crowded. So when the new terminal was finished and Ansett opened their lounge in this very room in 1988 I thought it was just fantastic. A refurbishment about 10 years later with heaps of potted palms everywhere. It was such a jungle I felt like bringing a machete with me sometimes. When they called your flight you had to yell out "where's the bloody exit ? "

Then VA opened a very basic lounge to start the ball rolling followed up with this week's most impressive fit out. This is by far the best set up I have seen of this room in over 20 years.

Actually after entering The Lounge yesterday the first thing I saw was samh004 with a bottle of beer in his hand. After a drink or two myself I went off to Brisbane drinks and the first thing I see is samh004 with a jug of beer in his hand. Interesting!!

A very pleasant afternoon and evening and well done VA. I look forward to the OOL lounge.

Oh come on....

Other people are allowed to have opinions Noob, just because you don't agree doesn't make them invalid or something for you to deride.

The design is pretty stock standard 'corporate nowness' - not saying that is really bad or really good btw - it is just a design style they chose. It seems functional and that is the main thing.

It will age relatively quickly but I can see how the designers have placed the accent materials and assets in a way that they could be interchanged to remain contemporary.

Look forward to going in person soon to check it out.

This invitation for AFF members to visit the lounge is fantastic. Probably doesn't cost much for VA but really makes everyone look twice.

It'd be awesome if this offer could be made each time a new VA lounge is opened. If so, I can't wait for the OOL lounge!

I don't think the OOL lounge will be as big of a deal as the BNE or MEL lounges. Nevertheless, I can't wait to see it.

It'll be interesting to see if they continue to use the same design theme in the MKY and OOL lounges. I'd've thought you would all be keen to pop up to MKY for a day trip when they open the new lounge there... September "BNE" drinks perhaps...?

I'm looking forward to to checking out Bris but given pretty much all my fliying involves OOL I am busting to see a lounge. I am hanging around his location more than anywhere else. Looks like a few of our most frequent flying members are based here too.

Sorry, but I don't understand how a comparison can be made between a cafeteria and the new lounge, to me that just seams like ignorance. I design part time and what is on offer in terms of hard product in the new lounges is pretty cutting edge stuff and appreciate smart design.

If someone said the Qantas First lounge is "bland" I would find it annoying because the person obviously does not understand the package as a whole. BTW the Qantas first lounge is probably my favorite lounge in the world the standard of design is just....*drools*.
