Virgin Australia Boeing 737 Max 8

Keeping it at 8J will also help with disruptions, ie if a Max10 gets swapped out for an 8.
Easier to deal with economy pax being time charged, than J pax being downgraded and/or time changed.

Can definitely see more EconomyX seats being available on the Max10
I reckon if they stopped upgrading people to J class so early and kept it to around 2 hours before the flight then it would be alright with any disruptions

Good news for VA! Boeing expects 737 max-10 certification this year, with deliveries from 2027 (Westjet being the launch customer). Production of the MAX is also set to increase from 42 units a month to 47.
Hopefully this means VA can finally take deliveries from next year!

So around 10 years from announcement to launch, not as bad as the 777X which will be a 15 years to launch.

Doesn’t give you much confidence that they will execute the 737 Replacement with any great success.

I guess Virgin doesn’t need a A321XLR equivalent as it’s not really in the medium to long haul narrow body game (would likely struggle even if they did), Bali is capped, and it’s got the MAX10 for its short haul volume edge. They need a 757 like replacement.

Would that not then be the 321NEO? Personally I think the XLR ideal for BNE/SYD/MEL to PER and back and if ambitious they could look at Asian destinations from Perth...believe me we can be easily sick of Air Asia, Batik, Philippines A/L etc. 🤭..also I think US carriers are using the XLR across the Atlantic to UK (AA from JFK to EDI at least) and Europe so it's not that shabby for market.

MAX-10 has the edge over a321neo on short sectors, like MEL-SYD, SYD-BNE, MEL-BNE, and also has very little EIS costs for VA, making it the more economical choice. If they configure it 8J, 196Y, that’s 204 seats total, 7 more than Qantas’s a321xlr, it would make VA very competitive on trunk sectors. I’d imagine we will see VA earnings increase considerably once they have the MAX-10 fleet at scale
