Virgin Australia Boeing 737 Max 8

The runway length is the problem at OOL, the newer max's with higher rated engines should be better
Heard that VH-8VA is the first Max with higher rated engines and will be entering commercial service on Thursday operating VA946 BNE-SYD

There are three different power ratings
8IA-8IH: 25k
8II-8IK: 27k
8VA-8VC: 28k

Do the new planes delivered last month have working WiFi or will it be fitted later? Over the weekend:
  • VH-8IK; no IFE or WiFi.
  • VH-8II: no WiFi (this was slightly more annoying as I was in J)
Edit: Saw that VH-8II has WiFi fitted

They've all had WiFi fitted.

I've flown on 8II and 8IJ recently. 8II only the IFE worked, no WiFi. 8IJ both worked fine.

The MAX's seem to be getting an early workout for their start in WA FIFO and RPT flying. VH-8VA is especially notable having done 6 sectors on 28/10/25 and another 6 even longer sectors on 29/10/25.

I don't get why VA doesn't tranfer MAX 10 & 8 orders to the MAX 9... MAX 9 still adds capacity and is more fuel efficient than the -800NGs and would be delivered a whole lot quicker than the MAX 10s. VA aren't expecting their first MAX 10 until the end of 2027 at the earliest!

The engines on the newest MAXs are rated to 28K vs 26K on the 800s. So yes, they will be able to uplift all fuel and pax up to about 42ºc, then things will start to taper off towards the 50ºc mark.
Is there any physical difference, or just a tick in the box, and the engineers select a new rating?

Has the -10 gotten any closer? They missed the cutoff for the EICAS requirement, and last I heard were not granted an exemption or extension.

Nope, no physical difference, it can be up/down graded as required. They did this with some of the ex Silk Air aircraft and gave them 27k, but now the MAXs are doing it, they’ve moved them back to 26k.
