AM and VA had recently applied to DOT (Department of Transport) for the codeshare arrangement between LAX and MEX and between LAX and the Australian East Coast cities (SYD, BNE, MEL).

Thanks to SQ and EY reducing their influence on VA, It's good to see VA once again expand their portfolio of partners across the major alliances (Star Alliance and SkyTeam) after stagnation during the Borghetti era under alleged orders of SQ/EY.

AM would add to the recent NH codeshare announcement and the recent upgrade of the VS partnership to a JV.

Not surprising given that DL own 49% of AM. Makes a lot of sense. Also not sure why you think it is linked to EY and SQ stepping back, as neither serve MEX or could ever hope to efficiently serve the city from Australia, so would they have ever objected to this specifically? NH, on the other hand I could see SQ perhaps having problems with.

This is great news. For someone who travels often to Mexico, this would get me closer from booking with VA. AM are not great, but due to high influence of DL over AM I am not surprised about this.

It would be interesting to see if they approve it and what reciprocal benefits look like.

What are the day to day implications of this? I fly regularly between MEL and MEX via LAX.

You would be able to fly all the way with a VA code or AM code. The specifics around SCs may be a different story as per previous partnerships like AC
