Virgin Australia’s ‘Design our Next Dish’ Competition

So I am sure most people here are not at all interested in this competition however I have been following it closely. Being a lover of all things food I was interested in the outcome and although I thought the prize pool was pretty sad it was a cool idea with the winner having their meal being served. What had really got me interested now is that it is long past the announcement dates without a word from Virgin about the results. ds.

This got me wondering how often do Virgin offer competitions and never pay up? I guess it great marketing strategy as you get all the hype with none of the cost. Reading though their Terms and Conditions there are many get out jail free cards like below

39. If for any reason this Competition is not capable of running as planned, including due to infection by
computer virus, communications network failure, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud,
technical failure or any causes beyond the control of the Promoter, which corrupt or affect the
administration, security, fairness or integrity or proper conduct of this Competition, the Promoter
reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process,
take any action that may be available and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Competition, or
invalidate any affected entries, subject to any written direction given under State Regulation.

I would be interest to hear if anyone else has noticed competitions being offered that never seem to get announced.

So celeb chiefs becoming to expensive for VA? maybe NZ/SQ/EH all tired to enter the comp with one of there own dish

I think most of us have realised the average Joe flyer could come up with a menu better than the celeb chefs do........and for nicks! My last J meal with VA consisted of a fruit salad, breadroll and small yogurt. Nice enough I must say, but hardly what I call a J meal.

Maybe I'm a simpleton but...how I crave for a chicken schnitzel in lounge/flight!

What makes you think there aren't winners for the competition. The quoted conditions say the winners MAY be announced. It does not say they will be announced.

You mean the like the brand name pie that they call an meal on the Tasman, and tire to charge you $9 for if you purcased an fire without an meal(*pie).

I was actually quite interested in the outcome of this comp and also wondered what had happened with it. Probably none of the entries could be recreated within VA's budget ;)

So December (Announce winners) and March (Winners meal served in Business class) by all accounts either of these things has happened. Now I'm a loyal and generally satisfied Virgin customer but this has really pissed me off and I would like to get to the bottom of it. It opens a massive door to just how may of these things are never judged or won and just disappear into the wind. Who keeps companies accountable to this stuff. I liked this comp and thought it was pretty cool, although the actually prizes where pretty poor.

Post on their facebook- that usually gets a good response

I agree, how many companies never actually "pay up" or really have the prizes in those raffles they do. I entered this competition and I was following it , I had forgotten about it as well, now that it has been mentioned, I've not heard Boo from Virgin about the competition

Ditto. I also entered, maybe our entries weren't creative enough, or/nor budget friendly as mentioned above to conclude a winner...

New Economy class selections for our international flights on Virgin Australia reflect our country's marvellous heritage.
For breakfast: Vegemite on toast!
Lunch and dinner: A meat pie!

Good to see the winner was finally announced and crowned for the competition on Facebook today. (About Time)
