Feeling very underwhelmed by the experience in Upper Class on a flight a couple of days ago.

The overall feel really is not up to J standards. The seats although lie flat are just too constricted.

As for food. I picked stir fried prawns with vegetables and rice. This has got to be the worst meal I have seen in J for a long long time. The prawns looked like they had been reheated about 5 times and tasted so. The FA didn't even bother asking how I liked the meal when he collected the mostly uneaten dish. Maybe he knew the answer already. The sandwich service close to landing was much better. Service was OK but rushed. Really felt like a PE flight.

I get the feeling the catering spend by VA is at the lower end. I suppose like everything in life you get what you pay for. The points for this were much less than QF or CX and rightly so. I might give VA a miss in the future.

Anyway looking forward to QF on the way back tonight.

Interesting. Flew them last week and have a trip report that I have started.

I found the food quite decent, and no issues with the crew, some were quite friendly. Loved the large table for eating and monitor position.

The seat I think has more room than the cx coffins but is still tight. Recline in seat mode isn't great but this is because the seat flips over for bed mode.

I don't like the herringbone layout and agree the seats are a little uncomfortable. Sleeping is not an issue as I can sleep anywhere.

I have now sampled VS upper class twice and I cannot fault the service or the meals to date. I especially like the bar area and spent 2-3 hours sitting there on a SYD-HKG flight last Christmas and the atmosphere was great.

Personally I think VS upper class is great value at only 40,000 VS miles and hope they are still around for a few more years as I plan to use my Amex MR points on VS upper class flights to/from HKG.

Hi johnk,

Are there plans to scrap the syd - hkg vv on VS? I'm planning to use it next year or the year after that as j have 240000 vs miles remaining for 3 pax UC.

Cheers,
K.

Any competition on the SYD-HKG route is welcome competition.

Though I have to admit I was pretty underwhelmed when I flew last week.

Remote control was sticky to touch (as sticky as sticky tape), falling asleep fully flat means getting out of bed to turn bed over, staff were pretty careless in serving and spilled heaps , flight had 25+ minutes of cabin announcements per sector (between the flight deck, english announcements and cantonese translations), and food was pretty bland...

But the bar was awesome! :)
