I've attempted to help you with the pricing before (re flightcenter) as well.

Also try Flyertalk or Milepoint, both which are more US centric than AFF and have a lot of information on them about VX.

As for 'better than AA' that's a very general question. I prefer flying AA having OW status, but have flown VX before, and their F is the best on any 2 class domestic service in the USA IMHO.
