I fly JQ a couple of times a month HBA-MEL return booked through work by a corporate travel agency. We operate on a cheapest domestic fare (tiger not included) policy which I cannot effect and therefore end up flying JQ on starter fares. If I wanted to get QFF points (and status, currently silver) normally it would cost $19 at time of booking, however work don't do this and if I want to add this later I would have to pay the fare change fee as well.
I don't imagine I am the only one in this situation, I suppose it comes down to how much the points cost JQ from QF (I know they're the same company), just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat?

Do you work for the APS? If so it wouldn't matter if you were allowed to pay for the plus pack. This is because you're not allowed to accumulate FF points as an employee on work travel.

Your employer is getting a special deal on the fare that suits them so sadly you're SOL.

For people not on APS - whom are allowed to collect SC and FF points it is a major bugbear. Obviously every employer is different but I expect many employees have a system of flight connections/rosters that usually manage to avoid Tiger/Jetstar wherever possible.

Its similar to the yield management say on VA starter fares where VA will not accept any money or points to upgrade to a higher fare class or even cabin if the booking was made through a 3rd party. Which is a strange way of doing business as the customer may be prepared to spend the extra $$ but not the original travel provider, they are effectively saying no to extra revenue, not I don't have an MBA but it does seem a peculiar way to run a business to me....

Yeah private sector as per earth west, flights allocated centrally on a cheapest seat basis, am offering to spend extra money, they just don't want it!!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Whilst I agree that if you want to throw more money at them you should be able to, looking at it the other way - they've taken a strategic decision to try and drive direct purchase from their website (and thus avoid agent commission etc). No dout the corporate bookings have inbuilt discounts etc so have diminished profit. Without the "tiers" everyone would just book BFOD.

Lousy for those whose companies have BFOD policy.

I have had a number of clients book me the base JQ fare on the JQ website. Of course this gets me no SCs or pts and i can't upgrade it post booking. Really hurts when the legs are JQ international long haul.

?? You need better clients??

Until Jetstar comes with a "Plus Lite" sort of product that comes without free changes, this will always be the case. The reason why JQ don't allow "plus pack" after booking is that one of the benefits of the Plus fare is that allows changes without a "change fee" (of course subject to fare difference). If they sold plus packs after original booking then that would be way around the change fee.

A reasonable solution would be to allow it for free during the first 24 hours or similar, which would let people add it to their corporate bookings but not practically avoid change fees. The only people who would really benefit from it are AFF-type people concerned about status earning :)

Stop making sense - these are airfares we are talking about  - they are not supposed to make sense! :D

Or a more reasonable solution would be to "unbundle" the flexibility from the SC earn. So that people whom don't need the flexibility can still earn SC.
