When travelling to Cambodia in 2007 we flew Vietnam Airlines to Vietnam and found the service all right. they’re Asia Miles partners, but not OW. More full service than JQ, but if you’re buying a flex fare then perhaps there is some advantage with JQ?

Which city in Vietnam are you flying to, that may help narrow things down?

Presume you're trying to stay qf/ow.

SQ would be an option (non ow) (my parents took this option back in April).

Yep, I want to try and keep on OW airlines. I also have a few other questions...

1. Visa on arrival. Is it an easy process?

2. I will be travelling to witness some testing on a piece of equipment purchased by an Australian company, technically working. Do I need a work visa?

3. Do I need a letter of introduction from the Vietnamese company to help this process along?

Last year we traveled to VN via JQ direct flight from DWN. We obtained our (Tourist) visas before departure and no problems. 2-3 day turnaround.

2. I will be travelling to witness some testing on a piece of equipment purchased by an Australian company, technically working. Do I need a work visa?

Safest answer is going to be "Yes." Last thing you want is a situation in a communist country. While United Kingdom is content to put you on a plane back to Oz if you have the wrong visa, VN may not have the same policy.

This page The Vietnamese Embassy in Australia - Consular has the info on obtaining VN business visa.

3. Do I need a letter of introduction from the Vietnamese company to help this process along?

Yes according to the visa page.

Enjoy your trip, we enjoyed our time there. Have a bowl of Pho Bo for me.
