I tried to find an aswer on here but couldn't find anything in the existing threads, so hope someone has experience with this:

Friend of mine will be flying with VN from MEL to Europe return soon, in Y. Tickets are in fare classes R and Q. I am trying to work out if there is a way on how to credit the points to a FF programme so she can later use them for flights in Australia (ideally).

My thought was to credit to DL and then use for VA flights, but DL would only generate 7500 miles (.75 for Q and nil for R), award flight in AU (via DL on VA) is 30,000 miles.

Any other (better) ideas? Many thanks for any inspiration.

I travel to Vietnam every 6-8 weeks on VN airlines - It is a member of Skyteam - however they have many codeshare alliances - as an examples I travel on a QF ticket and get all of the normal entitlements - they also codeshare with Cathay with the same result. They all so codeshare with China Southern and China Eastern together with Delta - BUT to get the points you must be a member of Skyteam or be travelling on a codeshare airline with a ticket issued by the codeshare company. If you are a member of the One World Alliance then you must have a ticket issued by One World companies to gain your benefits. A great little airline that tries hard and they have a fleet of aircraft made up of Boeing 777's for London/Paris/Moscow etc and an excellent fleet of Airbus 330's. BUT do not forget, if you are not in transit you are going to need a VISA and they are not cheap. Visa can be obtained (if you are an Aussie) at the Immigration area but better still (if you are an Aussie from Sydney) go to VINA travel in Marrickville Sydney, see Danielle and they will organise the VISA for you - take your passport with you - pick it up in 2-3 days. Much easier than the consulate.
Happy travelling
