Vietjet Rumoured to Be Establishing Australian Subsidiary

What expertise does Vietjet have? They have zero experience operating to the standards of the west. It’s a bit different compared to say SIA who built Tiger Australia off a high standard Singapore offshoot. They did the whole process down under in about a year. Standards in Singapore to say Vietnam/Thailand are like chalk and cheese.

Harsh. Hanoi to Saigon (HCM City) is one of the busiest domestic airline routes in the world.

I have a relative who is a pilot with VietJet. He says (as one might expect he would) it's fine as an airline.

Big pivot from Koala/VietJet for the former to move away from their WSI operations to apply directly for SYD slots alongside their AOC application.

The money is in Mascot as Bonza also found out, Tim Jordan was talking up Sydney in his last podcast and why it’s so important to make money here.

I for one would be happy to try out a new airline and stick with it if it works out well. When Rex jets were going I found them to be consistently the best, shame about the shambles in other parts of the industry. I’ve even tried out Bonza.

It’s very typical to complain that QF/JQ/VA are so bang average and yet the majority stick with them when a new entrant comes along, and when the entrant fails complain about how difficult it is to deal with the incumbents and how consumers are being screwed over.

I’d also imagine Vietjet knows what they’re doing, given they’ve not gone down the same route as Airasia/Lion Air in establishing subsidiaries in established markets, but l where few other LCCs have gone. Even if it fails we as consumers benefit from lower prices for a while, particularly for self-funded travellers.

And the taxpayer is on the hook for tens of millions around owed entitlements, councils all short of revenue, write offs galore right around the industry.

If it’s going to fail, then no point even bothering. Someone might save a buck on an airfare but thousands of employers, suppliers etc are screwed over.
