I read on another forum:

VH-EBT shown to depart as QF6001 0600 hrs Wednesday 23/5 to Honolulu.

After that, good question as to it's new owners, location and intended future.

Anyone got any ideas of what now for EBT?

Also any pics available of its last few weeks?

Cheers

Mixed reports that it is on its way to Marana in the US desert for scrapping or for redeployment as a passenger aircraft. It is due for a D check which is why its leaving QF fleet now.

Did quite a number of trips on VH-EBT so I'm sad (but happy) to see it gone. Don't know how many hours/cycles it has done. It is 22 years old but spent a few years doing nothing at one stage. Given QF is a public company, information on it's fate will eventually be available. I think as QF has 6??? (correct me if I'm wrong) new A330-200's on the way soon the 743's will be retired as each one reaches it's next D check. EBV had D check 2 years ago, so I assume its got a bit of time left, don't know about the others.

What ended up happening to VH-EBU ? I know it was being used for parts, but is that still the case ?

As far as I know, yes, being used for parts. Still at Avalon and will not be returned to service. It will probably end up getting broken up there, though there was talk of it being sunk in the bay to create a diving reef, somehow i doubt that story though.

Yep, its never flying again for sure !

They often use the coughpit shell as diving reef, not the whole plane. It could be possible, its been done lots of time before in different countries, thet sink ships for the same reason so i don't see why not. (Or maybe it was divers wishful thinking given its happened elsewhere to old planes)

Would that be the 743 sitting beside the SYD Jet Base with its tail painted out??

Apparently EBT has been bought primarily for its engines and some other major parts...the rest is going to stay in the desert to sunbake, or to the beer can factory.
