If anyone has stayed there and used their VGW for preauthorisation...
Have asked on the QCC side of AFF, planning to stay at Novotel AKL aport again, 2 weeks after using the VGW and the preauthorisation hasn't come back!
4 weeks is goss on Google.

A debit card is never a good idea for pre-authorisation.

Agreed...I used my bank debit card ages ago for what I later learned was a preauth for an Avis rental. I think I didn't see that money back in my account for a good 4-6 weeks. Might be exaggerated there but the measure is certainly weeks, not days.

Not sure if things have sped up these days. If you're going to preauth, either use cash or just be prepared not to see that much money. Some properties vary their preauth values, e.g. some just charge a unit currency; others charge rack for the stay.....

Oh and try and ask the same question only once.....cross-posting might be against the AFF TOS.....

And some, like the Marriott I stayed at at Cancun, progressively 'pre authorised' everything I charged to the room as well as 2 nights room charge

These days when on holiday I give my business card for pre-authorisations. The pre auth drops off eventually and my pers card is free of the 7-10 day credit lock-ups.

Its that VGW, yair, prepaid/debit come to think of it.
Will report here when it comes back, grin, should that be IF.
I did have Nzd$100 in cash, but she scoffed at it! Guess I wasn't hard at pushing.\
Anyway, thanks for the reply.

I tend to use Amex Charge for such - with those there is no specific credit limit so preauths are generally not such an issue.

Let it be known, (for those who want to or need to use VGW for pre authorisation), it takes 20/21 days after the stay at Novotel Auckland Airport, and now the funds have come back.
Thanks again to all those who replied, and to those reading, yes, it took that long, ...
Ok, thats it then.
Back to normality.
