Mr jojen & I have booked our first RTW AWARD in J departing May next year. After phoning and getting an agent that did not seem to know what he was doing I called back a few hours later. A very helpful gentleman in the Qantas Hobart call centre went out of his way to find the flights we wanted and with a bit of flexability with dates we had our trip booked.
Flying SYD- LA - [SFO] -[ JFK] - BOS -[ LHR] -[IST] - IST - LHR - [HKG]- SYD.

The return flight from IST - LHR is in economy as no J seats were available but will keep checking to see if any are released. The short flight from LA to SFO is also economy but am sure we can manage with that for the short time involved. We wil make our own way from JFK to BOS.

We will be in QF, AA, BA , CX , which will give us a sample of seats in J. Very excited !!!!!

Have also booked my first JASA to have enough status credits to make Gold at the end of the year !!!!

Well done on both!

Having SG should make your travel in May far more comfortable with your oneworld Sapphire aura ...

IST-LHR in Y is no problem. It's a simple three or so hour flight which in some instances still have regional J product only you're not missing out on much anyway.

Hopefully the QF legs are on 388s, and CX have the new NGBC :) Enjoy!

Thanks serfty. I am sure we will be very comfortable !!!! Have only had the pleasure of being in J from LHR to HKG once, last year when we used points to upgrade.

We have flown IST - LHR a couple of times in Y so know that it is ok. At this stage 747 refurbished from SYD - LA , have chosen 3 AB for this flight. HKG - SYD is A380, so will be upstairs. LHR - HKG is showing as the NGBC so really looking forward to that too !!!!!
Just hope they load plenty of champagne for us to enjoy !!!!

looks like a cool itinerary, what was the process to get things like this booked in, do you have to call up around a year before you want to travel to get all of the flights confirmed?

I'm looking to book in a similar trip for 2 on a RTW in J or F for travel in 2014 at this stage so wondering how early you need to start planning

If using points you need to be booking very close to the 12 months. I think with qantas it is 355 days but not quite sure exactly . I did wait a couple of weeks to get the return flights otherwise would have had to pay more points for adding to booking.
Be prepared to be flexible with date and flights as there is limited availabilty using points. It is great value for the points involved, but the only downside is NO status credits or points if booking this way. Good luck.
