For simple and easy we use the Cheesecake Factory which offers what I would call American Food.
For steaks we would drive to Flemings in Beverley Hills or El Segundo.
if you want to go up market you could book Spago in Beverley Hills.

My US IT specialist absolutely loves Fatburger but I have IN N OUT one block away in Washington Street just off Lincoln which is on the border of Venice.
Johnny Rockets is in Santa Monica is another burger place and is quite a bit more expensive. It is in Third Avenue of Santa Monica where there are no vehicles.
Well that's it for burgers.
Houstons,Flemings and Morton's are the steakhouses I frequent with Flemings winning because of the 20% off gift cards from Costco.

So we ended up at Mortons Steakhouse and it was as good as ever. A special birthday treat of a raspberry soufflé and photos of our group were given to us. A friendly touch. Another good experience of American service in restaurants.

That of course means you missed ordering the lava cake at Flemings (order this at the time you give your order for your meals as they take 20 to 30 minutes to prepare).
The three steakhouses I have named are chains and when we get back to Australia we are disappointed with Rockpool.
My favourite is the New York cut and I can almost replicate the taste on a very hot barbecue with meat from our butcher.
I believe they cook at 800 F which I cannot achieve.
