I seem to be going back and forth in making a firm decision about what FF program I should use to accrue status credits and points for an upcoming trip.

Firstly my frequent flyer status is:
VELOCITY = platinum with around 400,000 points balance
QANTAS = bronze with around 200,000 points balance

I probably only fly with QF once or twice a year, the rest with VA.

So here's the undecided......I am unsure whether to earn with QF or VA

1. I will easily hit the required status credits to attain Velocity Platinum before my upcoming overseas trip.
2. With the overseas trip the additional status credits wouldn't be of any use for my Velocity account.
3. The trip however would accrue enough status credits for me to achieve Gold status with Qantas.

So the options are:

Flying with Delta/earn Velocity
1. Earn Velocity points
2. Access to Delta lounges

Flying with US Airways/earn Qantas
1. Earn Qantas points
2. Achieve GOLD status
3. NO lounge access

Now fellow frequent flyers....WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Where are you flying on US Airways? And flying on AA?

If flying OW credit any flights to USA and in USA to AA

VA partners are very limited, but hopefuly will increase

If you're flying with US airways and AA, why not credit to QF and buy an admirals club pass? This will give you lounge access.

( Firstly my frequent flyer status is:

Just as I am my problem is that only jet* fly to my holiday island and the times don't suite so I fly virgin
Now I have at trip planed in Nov for the F1 my dilemma is that I will not be able to retain gold for the following year and have lounge access with my credit card

Now fellow frequent flyers....WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

I've got to have lounge access to stay sane these days ... I'm also a big believer in not only attaining status but using it too - so, for mine, I'd be doing the VA/Delta thing, so long as lounges were going to be provided all the way along (via Delta or whomever else you might codeshare with).

Achieving Gold with QF, if to only then fly them perhaps twice in the year would be a waste in my world.

If you only fly QF a couple of times a year & decided you want to get QF SG you'd want to make sure that you had completed the four QF and/or JQ 'squiggle' ~ flights within your membership year which is a commercial flight with QF that earns frequent flyer points & SC (not a classic award) or a JQ commercial fare with a plus bundle added. If not, you'll be stuck on bronze until you've done those 4 flights.

Even if you didn't fly much on QF, Gold status is still useful for extra baggage allowance, free seat selection etc when travelling on other OneWorld carriers.

Another advantage of QF SG is that you can always get the opportunity for a status match with an airline in another alliance. I haven't heard of an airline doing a status match for VA Plat or Gold as they're not a member of an alliance program.
