Velocity Status Credits - if you check-in but don't board, do you keep the credits?

Hi all,

My in-laws are both 10 status credits short of retaining Silver on Velocity and have no planned travel between now and the rollover date that would get them the 10 credits for retention. They do enough trips per year to get value out of the free checked baggage as they always have one checked bag each every trip.

I suggested they look in to find the cheapest return flight somewhere they could just to earn the status credits, because it will work out cheaper than paying for the checked baggage in the next period. But they asked me to find out whether they could just book one flight, check in to that flight online but then not actually show for the flight and get the necessary status credits that way.

Anyone got any tips, alternative suggestions or know whether what they have suggested would work?

Thanks in advance!

You do not get the SCs unless you physically fly the leg. Even if you board but off-load yourself before the plane takes off you will still not get the SCs.

My advice would be to find the cheapest sale fare you can (where are they based?) and do an immediate turnaround on the same plane.

Thanks smit0847 for the response, I appreciate it.

They are based on the Gold Coast, but can easily fly out from Brisbane. They need to do the flights before October 3. I think I saw some cheap return flights to Newcastle, but I'll have a look again for them.
