Velocity reinstates Singapore Airlines redemptions

With Singapore and QATAR opening up there reward availability a good month before Virgin does anyone know if Singapore "reserve" any premium cabins for virgin, or in peak periods are they all gone before Virgin has access to them.
Just deciding whether I should transfer my points to krisflyer to ensure availability. Thanks

FWIW, LHR-SIN mid July 2024 = no Business being released to Velocity at the moment. I understand that's peak. Have been online at midnight when the dates get released and nothing in BC opens, just Premium Econ and Econ. Call to Velocity confirmed no allocation in Business at the moment on that route. Last available seat I can see (on Velocity) is 3rd July 2023. Confirming what everyone has said: this inventory does not correspond to KF who show no Saver on that exact flight number, Advantage only. They def have their own allocation going on and while PE seems steady and constant, from my stalking at least, Business allocations are far from guaranteed. SIN-SYD does seem to have Business allocation though.

I'm probably preaching to the choir of experts out there, but thought I'd share in case helpful to anyone else who pops by. Not much info out there on all of Velocity's SIA ways (or vice-versa)!

The latest date released is 18 July on Virgin.
There are limited europe to SIN flights being released if you are a bit flexible. Manchester is a good option.
Currently 2 business
MAN to SIN on 15 17 and 18 July
CPH to SIN 13 15 17 July
AMS 13 July
I have not looked back further.
Seats.Aero is your friend, well worth the cost

To avoid disappointment, we need to be realistically honest with reward availability.
Main routes in peak periods are not going to yield J redemptions.
But you can find them on secondary routes.
Buy or redeem a transfer flight or rail to get to you to your destination.
Aim for travel in shoulders.

Or be comfortable enough to book Y when it's available and cancel & rebook when J seats become available.

They often do though with SQ and Velocity.

Speaking to an off shore Velocity agent today, they explained the lack of award seats (premium classes) as an issue with SQ ‘releasing seats to Velocity’ which apparently is ‘less these days than before’. Doesn’t tell us anything we haven’t already heard before.

I see plenty SQ premium J reward seats.

Have given a few examples up thread and on other threads.

Those that complain are <redacted> [unaware of how] to look for them. Or just want them for flights for their day of travel, not flexible.

I agree there is still loads of SQ J available on Velocity...there may be some specific issue around European summer 2024 but even then I'm aware of people getting 4xJ class on some flights July '24.

Anyone know how to get to Spain via SQ? I know they fly to Barcelona via Milan ( SIN -> MXP -> BCN ) however I can't see anything in the velocity book using points? Is it some bug or intentional?

Looking for November.

November this year? That's way too short a timeframe for an award seat on SQ via Velocity unless there's a lucky release of some extra seats. Earlier posts in this thread show how hard it can be.

You will typically have much more luck on shorter dates by searching for flights ex-SIN, and paying to position up there yourself. Similarly if BCN is not available, check the destinations with more capacity such as London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris then position accordingly.

E.G. You could consider CDG then getting the TGV down to BCN.

Hey folks. Looking to get the family over to Europe in the next year or so. Have some Velocity points I intend to use with Singapore, ideally business class.

Any downside in flying ourselves up to SIN (cash) then using points SIN-LHR? (could I link the tickets after booking?) Prob wont have enough points to do the whole shebang on points (and availability is fairly tight out of Aus) hence the question.

If you fly to Singapore on SQ and then fly onwards with SQ on an award ticket, then although SQ would not have to look after you if the first flight was delayed, in practice they almost certainly would. You should also be able to through check your luggage.

If you fly to Singapore on a different airline, then SQ would not help you if that first flight was delayed - so you would want to build in a substantial buffer (e.g. a day) just in case.

You are also likely to struggle to find multiple J award tix on the same flight.

The biggest risk is separate tickets. The airlines will not guarantee through connections so you’ll need to factor in a lot more time as a safety net to ensure that you can make the first flight ex-SIN. But if you’re flying with SQ on both legs, they “should” accommodate you.

Otherwise, what you’re proposing is what a lot of us here on AFF do to avoid the Australia tax and the lack of premium awards ex-Aus.

Thanks mate. Appreciate the response. On the velocity booking system, 4 business tickets appears to be reasonably easy to find (SIN-LHR). Anything I'm overlooking?
