New to this, so may be a silly question - was previously Velocity Gold member but dropped down recently and now back to a humble silver have suddenly realised the benefits! Only need 100 or so SC's to go back to Gold, and figured a shortly planned family holiday to Singapore and KL booked through Virgin's website would solve this. But the fine print seems to indicate that fare classes T,V & Q (I think) are ineligible for points AND SC's. So I think that means ANY saver fare is ineligible (no-one at either Virgin or Velocity had any idea what I was talking about)....so unless you're flying full flexi economy or business, you earn no points. (Thousands of dollars more for the family - prepared for a bit more but not that much). Where/how can I go on a South East Asian family holiday and get those Velocity SC's back up?! Maybe Hawaii is sounding good.................Or heck, Qantas has cheap flights to Asia right now...

Welcome to AFF and congrats on your 1st posting! I needed to travel to SIN last year and managed to requalify for Silver by flying on DJ (as it was known then) - MEL to DPS (then KLM to SIN) and on the way back SIN to HKT on TR, then HKT to MEL via PER... Happy planning!

You can get points on the cheaper SQ flights, need to book through VA though as a codeshare, yes T V Q are not paying but others are and the savers often can be E etc. The flexi option is often not that much more, but worth it for the point and SC haul.

So if it's a VA flight number booked thru Virgin's website then I WILL be eligible for points/SC's? Do the ineligible fare classes relate only to bookings made on SQ flight numbers?

You need to find a saver that one of the other classes to that below , a quick check shows N and E available on a SYD-SIN booking.

*Selected Saver fare classes (T, V, Q) are ineligible for Points earn when travelling on Virgin Australia international long haul services operated by Singapore Airlines.

Excellent thanks - but how do you work out what fare class a flight you're looking at actually is? (go on, I've searched myself stupid, but I bet it's really easy!!)

Click on the fare rules (pink circle) and up comes them, the fare bucket is the first letter of the fare basis (red circle)

If you're booking on the VA website, click on the "View Fare Rules" and look out for the 1st letter of the fare basis code, eg
Fare Basis: ELOASQ

Wow thank you!! Noone at Virgin or Velocity were able to explain this. Sorted - if I can't get a cheap enough flight (and looks like I can), then we'll do the Singapore via Bali thing...

All revenue fares sold with a VA code earn points and SCs .. you won't have to worry about ineligible fares (though the disadvantage is that VA codeshare flights can be substantially more expensive than the airfare on the operating carrier).

~Saver Lite and selected Saver fare classes (U, M, S, T, Q, V, N, E) are ineligible for Points earn when travelling on domestic connections within New Zealand on Virgin Australia codeshare services operated by Air New Zealand.

I have noticed this! Was looking at SQ metal to SIN and was about 15% more on VA! Posted a question on another thread asking whether it was worth it as Silver and received no replies!

The major benefit of booking an eligible fare class with SQ is that they are classed as (full) economy for status credits, and 1 point per mile earn rate. They can be good value on that basis.

I've made several flights with SQ, booked through SQ, and have always received full economy status credits. Good earn rate - SYD-LHR return was 280 SCs from memory

The other requirement to consider for gaining status is "eligible sectors" flown.

If you book on VA and have a VA flight number on a flight operated SQ you'll get an eligible sector credit, SC's and credit for miles flown. Travelling on an SQ flight # booked with SQ will give you just the SC's and miles.

I am now officially confused. I am flying SYD - SIN - CPT in December on SQ in Y class. This was bought through a travel agent but it's an SQ ticket on SQ metal. Does this mean I will not earn any SC's?

Whats the fare basis of your ticket, its unlikely to be Y unless your in the habit of paying more tha a business class fare for an economy seat.

Sorry my bad. I had a look at my ticket and it looks like I'm in H. I definitely earn points for it but am still unclear about SC's.
