Flew SYD-CNS last Dec and this month. Same flight numbers. The base points for Dec were 1,045 but this month 945. Would anyone have a clue why the change?

Points are based on the dollar amount paid for the flights. Looks like the second flight was $20 cheaper.

That must be so...and SCs at 15 are lower than Qantas (20).

Would be in a different zone for Qantas. For Qantas 20SC kicks in at 1200miles, while for Virgin it kicks in at 1500 miles. SYD-CNS squeaks into the Qantas 20SC zone but falls short for Virgin.
