Velocity Point Devaluation - Painful for Me

Back on 21 June I posted a thread in the Open Discussion about my personal valuation of Qantas FF and Velocity Points. I had gone through most places I wanted to visit, and noted the points required.

Today, I see that it now takes 18% to 19% more points to go to those destinations, while taxes and charges remain the same. This is thus a hefty devaluation of the value of my bank of Velocity Points.

I suspect that we can now presume how all of those huge numbers of Bonus points for new credit cards are being funded, in my opinion - by the accounts of current point holders.

For the record,

Melbourne...............No Of Points..........21 June 2015............11 July 2015
to
Sydney ...............................................5,800....................6,900

Adelaide...............................................5,800....................6,900

Perth ..................................................14,300..................16,900

Ouch! This reminds me of the Whitlam years.

I don't recall Qantas doing such a savage devaluation in their points during the last 11 years, since I became a member with them.

Regards,
Renato

I think those are the normal redemption rates. VA were running a 15% off promo up to June 30.
Thanks for that information - I only joined them in June and saw nothing in emails or on their site to indicate such. Now I have to go back and do recalculations.

Renato

Yep those are the promo rates.

I am pretty sure SYD - MEL has been 6900 (or pretty close to it) in Y for at least 5 years as I remember doing a redemption for the 2010 A-League Grand Final and I am sure this was the cost
