Velocity Platinum Announcement

We should send a massive amount of hard liquor to the VA social media team and get them really tipsy or maybe it would work as a bribe? :D

Come on VA rep join the dark side, it comes with a free cookie!

Flight attendants are pretty good sources, don't wait for the lav to be available, head back or front whilst the loo's are occupied and chat to the FA's, they are more forthcoming with info if you chat with them whilst standing for some reason, dunno why but it seems to work. ;) maybe it's a one on one thing.

They probably enjoy the opportunity to deal with inquiry that is not "where is the toilet", last Monday's DJ flight I was amused to watch a young lass try and open one of the storage cupboards that has a door 2 foot long and half a foot wide thinking it was the loo!

Ummm I did that on the Virgin A330 going to Perth the first trip I did on it. At least its a full height, and the dunny sign is above it .... I Think they would have been upset had I succeded;)

I'm happy to throw in the first bottle.

Come on VA loosen up and share the love, don't keep us loyal FF's hanging too long.

BTW had another rogue aircraft tonight...... not happy Jan (patience running out) PE taster, my a*s

I'm always entertained watching people on the QF Dash-8's try to open the coughpit door. I've noticed QF have even put up big "toilet" signs with a right arrow on the door to try to stop people attempting to open it (doesn't seem to stop them though). I've always been tempted to stop one of them and ask "If that's the toilet, where do you think the pilots are sitting?" :D

My guess/hope is that the system change will allow for upgrade requests using points and/or Points+Pay fares to receive Status and Velocity Points

I would imagine such announcements are commercially sensitive, we need to keep in mind that share price sensitive information needs to be released in the correct manner, this may at times tie the hands of reps and other staff members who participate on this board when they would very much like to be sharing the info. When info can be released, I am please to report we are often the first non official channel to hear about it!

I don't disagree with your assessment, but since this place is all about crazy speculation then why would he say anything at all? Just doesn't seem right...

PS - I spoke with someone on the phone today who said some news will be coming by the end of the month.

ETA: Also, with the taster upgrade ending this month it would make sense to introduce an alternative for Platinums.

Sorry to break the news and spoil the fun, but our agent got it wrong. Yes we are doing some work on the weekend of the 20/21st August in preparing our systems for a change but this doesn't relate to our launch of Platinum - that's coming later in the year.

Well the agent wasn't wrong at all, just a couple of days off!

Yeah, it's somewhat annoying that the VA rep flat out lied to us here. Not very cool. Would prefer him to stay silent than to tell a fib.

ETA: And hopefully our friendly little mod here won't merge this thread into another based on a personal grudge! ;)

Grudge LOL, why would an established thread with history get merged?

No grudge by me :) just surprised that they made the comment of being wrong. Anyhow all forgiven with the shiny new card that's on its way to me

Twas just a joke folks. Thus the smilie. Hopefully our friendly little mod will grow a sense of humour as well! ;)

He was trying to get us off the platinum scent...

...and it worked, until it was actually released closely to the date specified by the OP.

BUT keep in mind that this is a public forum, no big corporate is going to blurb a major announcement in a public arena (obviously). We aren't exceptions here on AFF: we are subject to the same media disclosure rules as normal "muggles" lol

Hayden, I can certainly appreciate that. But I think the best thing to do would be to say nothing. He doesn't respond to every thread and nor should he. He's got lots of other things to do.

But if he is going to be the official rep here then I would expect him to always be honest. To tell a flat out falsehood means that we will not be able to trust him in the future. That's what bothers me.

I've had lots and lots of conversations with people high up in many public companies - and they will always simply say "I cannot divulge that information". What they will not do is lie about it.

Yip I agree...........

Me too! If you can't divulge info that's fine but if that's the case say nothing and don't lie. As DJ1D pointed out it is hard to have trust in what they say if they have lied in the past

Anyhow no biggy in the end as we all got what we where so eagerly waiting for

Agreed - I won't lose sleep over it - VA have come through with an amazing product, so i'm not terribly bothered.

Don't necessarily blame the rep. You/we don't have any idea who made the decision to release the information as they did.

Actually, read the word's very carefully. There is no lie there. The announcement was "later in the year" than the 22nd of August. 3 days later to be precise.
