Velocity NON AMEX card gives 1/2 point per dollar spent and its 120,000 points to fly SYD to London thats $240,000 spent. Just as one example.
Velocity has only flight awards that are of any value, no store /petrol vouchers.
That seems like a very bad rate compared with almost ALL other cards.
Am I right?

I don't think there are many "non-AMEX" and "non-platinum" cards that give 1:1 frequent flyer points. I do not see any point (sorry for the pun) getting a card that does not give 1:1.

However for the national card - I believe you get 5000 bonus points and no annual fee in the first year. If you want to get that free national amex and charge whatever you can in the first 12 months, it will not be a bad idea.
I have just got my ANZ card approved for 15000 bonus points. So still thinking about this NAB Amex.

it all depends on what you are looking for. Not much use earning thousands of QF points when you can't use them when you want. Having some Velocity points at least gives the option of virgin, emirates and virgin atlantic. Also apparently no annual cap on the velocity visa.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I tihink you will find that Qantas has increased the number of award seats available.

I am looking at award booking SYD-SIN in April and I am amazed at the amount of options available. I have not seen this much availability in the short time I have been part of QFF. I can even get availability SYD-BKK-SIN almost any day I want which I could not in the past.

I think this is in part Qantas's initial response to velocity. More award seats.

maybe, but I already have more than enough QF points and AirNZ points to go anywhere (assuming availability) so i might as well get another option for when oneworld and star don't suit or have availability
