Velocity NAB 15,000 point offer!

After applying, I got a call while I was in a taxi on the way to the airport to fly overseas, asking for the payslip. I told the lady that I am going overseas and will not be able to get her the payslips for the next two weeks. She said, that's okay and she will send a letter to me with the required info.
When I asked her if that would affect the 15000 points, she said that she would not think so, but she can not be certain.
Need to watch this out.

I'll have a dozen please. :D

I received my card in the mail today. They had better give me the 15000 points or I will be mighty annoyed. It was the only reason I applied and I did it on the day it was announced.

I got my first credit from spend on the card but no 15000 bonus. If I do not get them this will be the last statement they will need to send

Offer of 15000 points is on again

Grr. And I raced through the deadline to get the 5,000 points at the end of Jan whilst irritable that I missed the first 15,000 point promotion (I didn't read this board during the relevant week late last year). I even asked at the time of application if they would be nice and give me the 15,000 points instead of the 5,000 since we have other banking with them but they didn't allow it.

Okay, please help me out here folks - what are the magic words and phrases I should use when I ring the NAB to try and get the 5,000 points upgraded to 15,000? Some of you obviously did it last time. Any tips or tricks you can offer me?

It seems to me that one approach would be to simply tell them that I wanted to close the current credit card accounts and have every intention of going through the process again so if they want to save paper and resources, they should just credit the extra 10,000 points per card. Is that the best approach that others can see too?

There's three cards between my partner and I so we're looking at an additional 30,000 points - something I'd like to actively pursue.

Thanks in advance!

It does specify in the T&C's something about not being able to cancel and apply for a new card to get the 15,000 points. Why didn't you get the 15 before? I figured if you submitted your application prior to the date you'd be eligable for the points once they preapprove it (which is usually pretty quick)

Hmm... I've just read the T&Cs again and couldn't see that clause. Could you please possibly direct me toward the part you're referring to?

Just to clarify, I did get some points (to be credited to my account in early March). The initial offer for the first couple of weeks last year was for 5,000 points. It then changed to 15,000 points for one week before returning to 5,000 points if signing up before the end of Jan. Therefore, since I missed the bonus week (you'd think a NAB customer on the Jetmail list would have gotten an email!) I was only able to get the 5,000 points.

Point number one reads:

Not available with any other National Velocity Points offer or when closing or transferring from another National credit card account.

What I thought that meant was you can't get the points if you close a NAB credit card account just to apply for this one. I could be wrong though.

Don't close and open at same time

When the wording says closing from there is a good chance they mean doing what you are suggesting, closing and opening at the same time.

However having worked in banks there is a fairly reasonable chance that if the transactions don't happen at the same time (and bear in mind I think you have a month to open new) you can close now, open in a couple of weeks time and noone will be the wiser. You can always say you closed but were attracted back by the new offer!

Cheers :D

but remember that closing your account and opening a new account will result in two credit applications going onto your credit file. too many credit applications in too short a time doesnt look good.

Where do you get two credit applications from :?: I only see one.

:? :? :?

straitman,

Since I already have a card from them I lodged a credit application with them in January. By closing that account and opening another, the system would register it as a second application within weeks. I presume this is what one9 refers to.

Well, looks like the NAB is not going to fix the issue. I have had to tussle with them over the past week or so to try and get the extra points. They have apparently "moved heaven and earth" to get an additional 10,000 points for one of the three cards but won't even bother trying to get the points for the other two. They're basically washing their hands of it and saying that it's a Velocity offer not NAB offer so they can't do anything about it. They are correct - it's not strictly a bank error but I don't think they've handled it particularly well given the loyalty I've shown them as a customer over many years. Grr. :x
