Hi

I am proposing to be flying Premium with Delta internally in the US. As they are a partner airline with Virgin, I am trying to establish if baggage allowances for Velocity Gold members applies to bookings on Delta.

Although the Virgin site states that Velocity Gold members get the same baggage allowance as Delta Gold Medallion, an email to Delta yielded a No - however this does not make sense. Any thoughts, experience etc??
I don't want to be slugged surprise baggage fees upon checkin!

thanks in advance.

You do get the extra baggage allowance, along with other people on your same booking. When you make the booking on the DL site, and input your VFF #, your status is show in the booking with your baggage allowance.

I am Velocity Gold and returned from the USA 9 days ago after several usual Delta flights across the US. I have been flying Delta for more years than I care to remember and always put my Velocity no. in and have never had a problem. Delta do class Velocity Gold members as Delta Gold and always treat us well.
Your status will be on the top of your boarding pass stating Sky Priority. ( Well mine has always been on my boarding passes for all my flights so far. )

I took my first flight with delta in march as a VA Gold. It was LAX-YVR-LAX

It was very good, All that is listed under the VA site for DL applied. I was able to use priority check in at LAX, Bags were free (usually $25 USD). I had bought a main cabin ticket and as a gold we get the free upgrade request to Delta Comfort which on the way up I was successful with. I was then also successful on the way back. But on top of that just prior to boarding I was upgraded to first class as well. Pretty much just a Business Class it wasn't anything too special but better then nothing!

Priority baggage applied and I also had access to the Delta Sky Lounge at LAX which I thought was quite good. Had a long layover of around 5 hrs as I had flown up from Colombia.

All the Gold Medallion products are matched really. On my ticket it actually comes up saying Gold Medallion/Sky Elite. Rather then Velocity Gold So I guess they just recognize you in the same way as their own Gold Medallion members.

slightly off topic, I booked a Delta flight LAX-SLC-LAX.
I just logged into the mangage my booking to add my Velocity details and i noticed it allows me to request a comp upgrade to Y+ n both flights as a WP

Interesting ... I rarely book economy on Delta as the SC earn for C+ with what is often relatively not much more so have not come across this.

I find my BP's show me as a "Platinum Medallion".

Agreed, this is a work flight so I was able to choose a more expensive flight than what was available, but didn't push my luck. I actually was looking on the site to see the cost of the upgrade but couldn't see it.

It's free to request/waitlist to C+ on all DL flights as a VA PS/SG/WP.

Whether the status actually appears on the booking and allows agents to give it to you is another matter...

It is free but I don't do it. Too often you're upgraded into a middle seat - more legroom sure, but still. Serfty is right comfort plus, even first class, can be just a small amount more. I got a ORD x/MSP LAX first class seat for about a US$40 premium!

I flew TPE > NRT on Delta and whilst I was recognised as Gold Medallion, I wasn't eligible to request an upgrade to Y+ for whatever reason.

I will say the ground experience was great, though the girls at the Delta lounge were a little confused at first by my VA G card.

On the return I did get my party of four seated in exit row on the 767 which is as good as an upgrade in my books.

Can't comment on baggage as they were included in the fare, sadly Delta no longer fly that route :(

I am booked with Delta, already in Premium seats as I had no status when booking. I did put in our VFF no when booking but when I go to Delta to check, there is no mention of status with VA anywhere. Will that show later on in the booking or is it a bit of a hit and a miss?

If you get DL to remove the VA number, then add back in, the status may show. But YMMV with that, I am not sure if it is just a silver specific thing however no status showed on my booking when that was done, despite being a VA PS. I was wondering why my name wasn't on the C+ upgrade list (dykwia!!)...I talked the lovely agent in to giving me a seat in the end.

Same deal with mum, I'm a VA WP and mine shows on Delta, however Mum earnt VA SG after booking the Delta flight, tried to remove and add Velocity number back in to recognise status, after a phone call to VA and Delta, still no luck.

You dont need DL to remove the number. If you are on your PC just go to manage my booking and remove the ff number and then re enter it

I have done it a few times without any drama's..

Worked like a treat, status is now showing :D Now I am just waiting for VA to get our Gold status through and do it again :)

Great

Give it 3 or 4 days after VA upgrade before you try again.

I did have problems Gold - Plat as the 2 "systems" whatever that is, did not match.. DL and VA both told me wait 4 days and try again.. I did wait and it worked fine.

Maybe a change in status takes a while for both systems to sync..

Bumping with some notes from a recent trip:
- "Sky Priority" was consistently printed on my boarding passes, so I was able to use the express security lanes where offered.
- priority baggage tags were also attached every time (did not have to ask), and the baggage handlers actually seemed to take notice of them, bags came out early every time.
- no problems with Skyclub access at LAX, DFW or ORD. LAX Skyclub is clearly a temporary setup due to the terminal move but they were all nice enough.
- at the MSP Skyclub I was told I was only eligible for access if also flying a VA flight on the same day. I'm fairly certain this is not correct. Would have argued the point but I did actually have a VA flight on a separate ticket, so it was easier to just show them that instead.
- priority boarding was also available every time (after the First Class pax), useful as those overhead bins fill up pretty quickly on domestic flights in the USA. Only problem was the crowd of pax around the boarding area waiting for their zone to be called, just had to politely push my way through to actually get to the jetbridge.
- complimentary upgrades to C+ were easy and available on every flight, just check in (via the Delta app) early to be at the top of the upgrade list.
