That's good but I went and booked a restaurant for a couple of weeks and it has no tables. But I can call the restaurant and no problems booking over the phone. Wonder if it's a ruse and very limited availability! It's like I'm trying to book an award flight!!

It's a shame you actually have to turn up for your reservation to get the points. I could really go to town on this if you just had to make the booking to get the points!

Happens often with Dimmi the other on-line booking tool I use as well, they only allocate a tiny number of tables for "on-line" and sometimes you have to book more than a few days in advance

Much like how we name and shame the Qantas restaurants that claim their "machine is not working" we should start a thread on here and name/shame (mention) restaurants which claim "no availability" when trying to book online!

Oh yeah.... Something for nothing hey ?

Thanks for that link! Had a booking already at Aria in Sydney next week and have now cancelled and used that link instead

This is nice, a substantive list of places I actually want to eat at instead of the rather anaemic and apparently shrinking list of places doing Qantas points. This looks like a deal between bookarestaurant and Velocity though so the restaurants themselves mightn't pay extra to give points, apart from whatever deal they have with bookarestaurant?

There is one in Vic

But can't book it online at the moment and they never awarded my Qantas points as their "machine was not working"

(South Australia)

This seems like the biggest bull****.

The Stag, a pub, apparently has no available tables for two people at all (Tried up to September)

Why the hell can't Virgin have some competence? The Shop&Earn system is woefully ****... and now it seems their Velocity Dining is equally as ****.

EDIT:->Sigh, tried another place, literally no tables either!

OT, but partially relevant... made an EBay purchase about 2 days ago... obviously has not shown up 'within 24 hours'. I'm not going to waste my time chasing it, because to e-mail Virgin is an absolute waste of my time since they don't bother responding, and I don't want to take up the time of AFF member 'Virgin Australia', unless it's actually at least a decent amount of points... but, I SHOULDN'T FRIGGEN HAVE TO CHASE IT UP. If you say transactions will show as pending within 24 hours, code a system that makes that happen.

Thank you for the positive feedback on our latest partnership, which is a great way to earn more Velocity Points. The restaurants can put as many tables as they want to be available online, and a lot of them will put their entire restaurant online. However, some restaurants could hold back a few tables for phone reservations or walk ins. We will be working with them to give you as much online availability as possible.

Though Qantas is not looking all that great, the list of restaurants in Brisbane is looking rather bleak.

We do know how to spend money on going out to eat here, too, you know... :)

There might be 2 in Victoria because I could book a place in Melbourne for late June that also gave me QF points last time I was there.

And some of them will put *0* tables online, and still be part of your partnership?

Virgin is certainly being taken for a ride then!!!

Sure beats the QF system where the patron gets taken for a ride by the "machine not working" after you've dined.

I view the problem as more of a reflection on "bookarestaurant" than Velocity. If bookarestaurant is willing to act as a promotion and review platform without obliging their clients to offer reservations on the site, that's their problem.

Thanks for reading and responding to this thread

I certainly haven't experienced problems on the QF front that others have fortunately. My question is, it always seems to be the same small number of restaurants that go in for these things. So wouldn't it be possible to get Velocity points from the booking then use your QFF card at payment?

I think it would definitely be possible. I bet 95% of these restaurants aren't even aware of the bookarestaurant/VFF hookup. So bookarestaurant pays VFF to award you Velocity points for booking through them (obviously the restaurant pays a cut to bookarestaurant for listing on their platform), then the restaurant pays QFF directly to award you QF points.

I can't see why any party would object. VFF and QFF both get paid, and any restaurant that awards QFF points that was already listing themselves on bookarestaurant was going to be paying the listing fee anyway.
