I’ve spent an hour trying to navigate the velocity and Delta sites to no avail :(

Does anyone know if the velocity benefits on Delta (specifically increased baggage allowance for gold and platinum) are still valid?

Still true (for luggage).

See Delta Air Lines (which is current as you'll see the lounge update).

- Click down to Status Benefits on Status tab.
- Click more status benefits.
Extra (Medallion) luggage allowance is listed.

Yes -

Scroll down after popular destinations, the website will then tell you what is offered per status :

For Gold Member,
Up to 75% bonus Points
Priority Check-in through SkyPriority lane
Priority Boarding
Priority Baggage
Priority Screening
Additional baggage allowance: Receive the same allowance as Delta Gold Medallion Members

Also note that lounge access is changing as per September 1st :

Access to Delta Owned and Operated Lounges

There have been some changes to Lounge access eligibility when flying with Delta. Effective 1 September 2021, domestic lounge access within the USA is only available to Platinum and Gold members in conjunction with an International same day journey.'

Hope it helps !

No DL lounge access for Velocity Plats flying just domestically, even on a paid Delta First Class ticket.

YIKES, that marriage just fell out of bed.

Not necessarily. Could be just a covid restriction to reduce numbers in their lounges, for obvious reasons. We've got a pandemic you know!

Isn't that actually pretty standard for US domestic travel for the Big Three and their own elite members? Like, only premium transcon or connecting to/from a same-day flight further afield?

Another poor downgrade in benefits if this remains post pandemic.

What about when flying International Bus/Domestic 1st class? Not that I have any overseas travel planned just yet!

Actually Skyteam is different from Oneworld and Star Alliance in that elites world wide only get status based lounge access in conjunction with same day international travel.

I'm here in the US now and tried to get into a delta lounge (Virgin Gold) and was told that domestic lounge was no longer available since January. So it's already changed.

Well that dramatically decreases the value of Velocity status for me. Halve the number of lounges in Australia, then cut access to Sky Clubs, and it will effect my purchasing. I was about to make a number of bookings during the double status credits promo, but I actually won't do that now. The only major tool they have left now to tempt me is price promotion! (It likely also means that I won't be flying Delta much.)

Yeah it's a shame because I choose delta when I'm here for that reason.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Yeah, but I and others had that issue pre-covid... not everyone in Delta is/was familiar with Virgin partner access.

According to one of that news articles, its not only with DL, but VA seems to be not interested in renewing any of their close/r liaisons with their international partners.
Could be due to Covid not putting enough international fliers, into VA flights from overseas, but could also be that VA is getting tight fisted, financially speaking, and not going to spend money "willynilly".

Would be curious to know which sources are those articles. Seems weird for Bain to almsot "go it alone" without any international partners for the short term (except for the Air Canada agreement), despite the international border closures.

Hopefully a temporary cutback due to Covid and limited international travel. Velocity benefits on DL and SQ made up for the lack of alliance and various other shortcomings in the program.

On the other hand, if they shore up the main operation to be relatively strong in the market then selling something with limited handcuffs to existing partners might just be the strategy they want to go to the market with in coming years, allowing any potential new owner to come in with a clean slate.

Given they still have luggage benefits, and lounge access for actual international flights, it's a bit of a stretch to say that applies.
