Hi

I am new so not sure if I am posting in the right area
If anyone can please help me with the following, will be appreciated.

(1) What is the penalty if with Velocity points if you cancel a flight. I am presuming that velocity has a similar policy as Qantas if you need to change / cancel a points booking
(2) With the current offer of a free domestic return ticket - I understand that the destinations are limited based on your point of departure city. What is the general availability if I book in advance. Looking for a domestic ticket around Christmas.
(3) Can I book a ticket for a family member with the free domestic return?

1) I think the change fee is $80 once ticket is issued.
2) It is one of the strength of the free ticket provided by Amex. I always managed to book Virgin ticket during busy season say Easter/Christmas travel within 2 weeks of notice. I always book SYD-ADL return on this (families in ADL) and I usually get $500-600 worth of ticket by booking it on busy time.
3) Yes. You can even book for a stranger as well!

1. Points bookings - Changes are subject to a 4,500 Points or $35 charge per guest per booking. ..
2. My understanding is that if there is a saver class fare available you are good to go!
3. As answered above, yep!

How do you book the free flight? Who do you call?

Call Amex customer service ( I think the number on back of the card ) and ask to book your free flight.. I have a quick look on Virgin site first and feed them the flight number..

Domestic.

This is international.

Changes are subject to a 7,500 Points or $60 charge per guest per booking.

See Velocity terms and conditions section 35

Reward Seat Booking on Virgin Australia Domestic or Virgin Australia International Short Haul flights $35 or 4,500 Points per person / per booking
Reward Seat Booking on Virgin Australia International Long Haul flights $60 or 7,500 Points per person / per booking

I was charged $35 for cancelling NZ redemption this year

I think we are getting confused, International long haul is not an option for the free flight!

Ok sorry .. I can see where this has strayed . I do understand no international for free ticket but rather clarifying that redemption cancel charges are not just domestic v international.. Anyway I think it has been covered... Apologies for the confusion

The original question was regarding points bookings that whats being answered. Not sure where you think the confusion is coming from?

Do you get status credits & points for these flights?

Quite easy to see the point of confusion IMHO.

The thread title refers to the Amex free flight and the first question refers to changing/cancelling a points booking. The second question then goes back to referencing the free flight.

I have a (relatively stupid and probably obvious) question about these flights.

I need to get three of us SYD-CNS in September and then back TSV-SYD. I am using the last of my VM 2-4-1 for two of the tickets, but was wondering if I could use the AMEX free flight for the other.

Both TSV and CNS are eligible locations from SYD. But can you do a return multi-city (i.e. SYD-CNS;TSV-SYD) as part of this or is it strictly fly into and out of the same city only?

*edit: I have looked at T&Cs and they are surprisingly unclear about this.

From my experience (and other reported experiences) it needs to be a return flight to one location. I.e. SYD-CNS-SYD

Thanks - figured as much. Was just interested to see if anyone had been able to make it happen. Points or cash it is then.

Hey all, don't know if anyones had an experience with this but has anyone ever managed to get them to lock in a PER-MEL return on the free flight? I appreciate its not published but then neither is the PER-SYD that lots of people report being able to get.

If not, I've been informed that you can take a hidden city approach (fly PER-MEL-SYD but dont get on the MEL-SYD flight) but then do I run the risk of VA cancelling my return itinerary?
