This just in from my AmEx Centurion RM - am assuming it is going to be a general public offer, and not just limited to Cent -

"Further to my previous email, I would also like to advise you a special offer for Velocity from the 1st to 31st May . I think you're right, then the bonus fell to 25% in late 2008 or early 2009. Lots of us were hoping for the 5000/5 and 10,000/20 transaction bonuses to use when VA launched. (The launch was delayed though). When you were entitled, like some were, to 2,500,000 points, just a 5% loss was 125,000 points.

Indeed VA's very first MR transfer bonus was 50% but that was when Velocity was initially launched. Right from day 1 Velocity ret J redemptions MEL-LAX were 180,000 Vel pts - I transferred 240K pts into Vel and netted 120k bonus to get to 360K total pts = 2 x J ret redems.

I proceeded to book first J ret redem and did not check acc bal - Vel forgot to deduct 180K pts. A few days later I realised I had stuffed up return date and called them back to change ret date by 1 day. It was at this point that Vel realised they had not deducted the 180K pts - they were in such disarray in those early days I am quite sure it would have been a freebie had I not sought to amend original booking - double D'Oh!
