Velocity Accounts being suspended for investigation

All this is making me feel more uneasy about waiting to get everything out of Velocity into Krisflyer... hopefully the process won't take the full 30 days for people who've just been accidentally caught up in some broader investigation. But three cases so far just on AFF makes it seem like a pretty big deal.

Still waiting on my points from last Friday's simple domestic return flights to be credited, so maybe they are having wider IT problems.
 
wow so wife's account was suspended today. again another dormant account.
was under her maiden name + an address that we were living in 10 years ago (forgot to update it).
something is going on. wonder if its by association (but then again i cannot recall if i ever transferred points to her account in the last 5 years).
 
Do any of these accounts have family pooling? May be a mis-match between addresses or primary / roll-in account.

May also be unrelated to the account owners and there's been a widespread breach / hack of accounts.

You cant have mismatched addresses; as soon as you update your address and its different to a linked account, the pooling is ended.

We had active pooling for some time (months) after mrsdoc updated the address within her Velocity acct and mine and minidocs remained at the old address. THis was around a year or so ago.

The process may have since changed to a more immediate process (it may have been around the time of the website update).

Both last year and this year when I've changed my address it has cut off my pooling arrangement.

If you have done nothing wrong ... you have nothing to fear....

Sometimes innocent accounts can be caught up in a fraud web/ scam and deeper investigations and stat dec can clear up any issues.

If you have been a naughty boy or girl (even months ago) .. you may have played the game and lost...as appears to some of the OzBargin folks

Except of course getting innocently caught up in a broader investigation and then missing out on a 15% Flybuys bonus and/or pre-devaluation transfer to Krisflyer.

Anyway, we don't seem to be hearing many reports of the problem escalating.

That message that been there for as long as I can remember. Basically it’s just reminding you when you move to update everyone, as most people forget and they don’t usually approve claims where one forgot to update the chain. Obviously most don’t find this out until the points don’t arrive in their own expected pooled account.

There were a lot of accounts suspended the other year or so, remember the KrisFlyer free 5000 points signup that resulted in everyone then transferring to Velocity (which is an instant transfer), resulting in many people signing up dogs and cats. Was probably the biggest loophole in living memory lol.

Sadly if you have broken the rules even just a family pool to someone who shouldn’t have, well they will most likely ban you and even those associated. Not great if you have high status.

I suggest you rejoin with a new phone number and email (hint hint), or they will ban you again within a short period of time. Mabye just join Delta or similar partner program.

The investigation is now complete, and no action is required from you. Your account is no longer suspended. We have identified that you previously engaged in Points Transfer – Family transactions which may not be in accordance with the Velocity Terms and Conditions.
This letter serves as a reminder that such actions are in breach of the Velocity Frequent Flyer Program Terms and Conditions of Membership (“Membership Terms”) and any future breaches will result in the termination of your Velocity Membership.
Section 12.1 of the Membership Terms state that you may only transfer Points with an Eligible Family Member, defined as:
Eligible Family Members are defined in section 1.1 of the Membership Terms to include persons related to the Member by virtue of the following relationships: spouses or de facto partners, children, parents, siblings, grandparents/grandchildren, uncle/aunts, nephew/nieces, first cousins, or any in- law, foster, step or adopted relationship in any of these categories.
You may access your account online or contact our Membership Contact Centre on 131 875 if you have any questions or require clarification on how the program works.
