I have a couple of questions in relation to Y+ on VA. MrsHaydenSydney (:p) and I decided to go to coughet instead of LA for my birthday at the end of November. We decided to go Y+ as the flights were only $1500 return, and the "via Brisbane" was of no concern to us ... anyway - some questions I have:

- On QF, Y+ has a better meal spread compared to plain Y, is this the case on VA?
- Alcohol - would the spirits/drinks be comparable to whats on offer in Y?
- IFE - this seems to be the only downfall with VA compared to Y+ on QF as QF has a in-armrest IFE - whereas VA has the screen in the seat in front. Were there any issues with the IFE i.e. when the seat in front is reclined?

Perhaps paying the extra for J ($1000 ea rtn) would be an idea, considering MrsHaydenSydney and I usually only fly J internationally - however seat pitch in Y+ looks comparable to NZ J on the A320, so can't be that bad....

I flew VA Y+ BNE-LAX in August (I too am used to J internationally) and loved it, wouldn't hesitate to fly them again.

The seats remind me alot of Qantas Domestic Biz Class, perhaps not as wide, but definately as comfortable.
I didn't notice any issues with the TV in the seat, I actually prefer it alot of the time, their IFE is one of the fastest and most reliable i've seen, good selection of movies though could use a few more new released.

I don't drink alot so can't comment but there didn't seem to be a lack of selection at the Y+ bar.

The meals are excellent, definately a better standard than Y, i've been OS on JAL J since that trip so im having trouble remembering what was served but I know I had no complaints.

For an 8 hour flight, its fine, as much as I love flying J, I don't see the value in it for 8 hours when i'm as comfortable as I was in Y+

I would take a Y+ over J where available anyday.. I cant sleep laying down on a plane, so its no benefit to me.. Im flying from HKG to ORD Y+ on BA via LHR for Christmas.. Service and inclusions are great. Just flew Y+ on QA and it was great too.. although they ran out of spinach to put on the toasted italian sandwiches.. hehe

Cheers guys - I too am thinking that Y+ should be alright for a normal asia-length flight. I will leave J for a LA trip

I've flown QF Y+ previously on a SYD-HKG leg and it was great - exceeded expectations on all levels, so i'm sure it will be just as good on VA.

Will certainly post up a trip report when the time comes....
