I have been trying to book a J award SIN-MEL from June 22 next year right through to late July ona daily basis. The only flight availability is through Perth which almost doubles the flight time. Three calls to the service sentre comes up with the same result, yet I can book flights this October on nearly any day. Makes no sense. I have been loyal since 1996 and had status nearly all that time. I just do not accept there are NO direct SIN-MEL flights nearly a year out.

I have decided to accept the status match offer from Virgin and will use Singapore for international

What status match

I'm too poor to own a signature

They know they can sell pretty much every one of those seats between now and July...QF has always been kind of protective of its seats, this is hardly a new phenomenon....

What does 'Vale' mean?

EDIT:

vale
/vāl/

Noun:

  1. A valley (used in place names or as a poetic term): "the Vale of Glamorgan".
  2. A written or spoken farewell.

Dumb down your expectations of upgrades there!

I have found a phone call can produce results sometimes.

Otherwise it's your money, and we went to war to defend your right to spend it how you want!

This phenomenen has been known for years. Qantas is probably the tightest airline in Oneworld when it comes to Business (U) inventory.

They have always been very good to me with upgrades. I think they prefer passengers to book a paid ticket and then play the international upgrade lottery!

jbc If you have been loyal to Q since 1996, this might be a hasty decision you have made to go with Virgin. A phone call to Q may get you the award flight you need. At least give it a go first.

EH

The OP says that they have rung three times, that's at least giving it a go.

It's Latin for goodbye, in the use you have quoted it is a valley formed by a river, so perhaps the OP is referring to QF being up s**t creek and that creek has formed a valley ;) LOL.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I can see a J award for CX690 /Qf30 which will get you straight to Mel via HKG

Join EF (expert flyer) and set alerts.....that's what everyone else is doing!

If you like white knuckle rides.....book at the last minute. I'm a late booker & have had very good luck securing 4/5 J seats on BA/CX:D however, very little luck with QF:(

I can see plenty of "cheap" ones in that time frame. All go via somewhere and there are a few Sydney and Brisbane ones too.
Maybe if I log out of my (WP) account it will be different.
Will let you know

yep, this comes up in my son's account (Bronze) for 98,000 points
I reckon that is pretty good for the small inconvenience of going via HK
On the 23rd there is one via Brisbane for 60,000
But as I have learnt here, YMMV
If you are worried by the way-points you could enhance the experience by making them any seat awards and getting a point "refund" and bonus status credits?
And I wish you the best of luck with your quest

I can understand your frustration with Qantas but in my opinion the grass is not greener on the other side.

Thanks for the input. I have ten flights coming up, 2 to AKL and two in business. This would achieve SG again. Virgin have been responsive and asked if I was satisfied with their offer, QF just dont care. I called a fourth time and asked to speak to a supervisor, was put on hold for several minutes then told there was nothing they could do for me. I will use my points bank for Bali flights. I will take up Virgin offer at the end of the month.
