Good afternoon. I have just booked some VA return flights BNE-LAX, and because of the days we need to travel, we are on VA6 out of LAX, departing at 11:15am, arriving BNE 6:15pm the next day. The timing looks good to me, and it fits into a nice return to work the next day instead of landing at 7am and then trying to get through the day without falling asleep. Has anyone done the VA6 flight and what did you think of the timing? Second question is lounge access in LAX. The VA web site says lounge access is the Los Angeles International Lounge for VA6. I haven't been through LAX since the new VA lounge changes and will miss not going to the star alliance lounge. Has anyone got any feedback about the Los Angeles International Lounge? Thanks.

No star Alliance lounge anymore.

It's a daylight flight basically throughout with pilots wearing sun glasses the whole way.

To be honest timing sucks as it departs 4am BNE time and the cabin crew try to get you to sleep after serving lunch at breakfast time

Haven't been to the new lounge yet but reviews posted online made it seem rather average.

TBH I prefer the arrival time back into BNE but aside from that I didn't really enjoy it. Found myself awake most of the flight as it's daytime and my body clock is still on LA time

I haven't taken this flight, but I did take a day flight from DFW to SYD a while ago. (It was a very delayed QF8 departing at 10am and arriving at 7pm.)

It was one of the best long-haul flights I've had. I actually really liked the timing - I stayed awake for most of the flight, then had a good night's sleep after arriving back in Australia. I had virtually no jetlag from the next day. So I would actually prefer VA6 to the usual VA8 timings.

Not taken this specific flight, but last few flights from US to SIN have been in economy - late morning/early afternoon departures via NE Asia arriving mid -late evening. Really liked the timing, as I stayed awake for whole flights and was able to get to sleep easily that evening once arriving home. In fact last time, I worked for the flight and saved a day annual leave.

Ditto for flights to Europe, if in Y, I if at all possible only take the day flights from SIN to LHR, which are very similarly timed and of similar duration to LAX-BNE. Enjoy the flight and then go for a walk etc before going to bed late evening, almost completely avoid jet lag this way.

Did this flight on 5th August, was a nice change to arrive back at night and not have to worry about staying up all day to combat jetlag. Can't comment on the lounge, I didn't make it in myself, my Partner went in and said it wasn't amazing just a quiet place to relax before flight. Meals on flight are Lunch on departure and Breakfast on Landing.

Breakfast on landing? The flight arrives in the evening!

I have flown flights from Singapore to Heathrow and Hong Kong to Heathrow during the day and I thought they were both awesome.

This flight from VA sounds good as well; although you lose a day I think its better for you less jetlag.

Well it would be breakfast time somewhere in the world!

I was also confused. Even LA time it is still only 01:15 when the flight lands - so serving time would be around or before midnight.

I'm guessing it's because all the other flights from LAX-BNE are 6am arrivals into BNE so it's easier to just stick with the one menu.

Recently returned on VA6 and they're still serving breakfast prior to arrival (at the time of serving it was 11 pm in LAX and 6 pm in BNE so it only really makes sense if you've spent a month in the mid-Atlantic and you're still on Azores time).

Upon arrival it was announced that the local time was just past 8 am, all announcements in the terminal referred to the recent arrival of VA8 and it even credited to my Velocity account as VA8 o_O Despite all that, I found the timings pretty good! It was nice to not feel like I needed to push through a full day to properly adjust.

The timing is good if you can't sleep on airplanes or if you prefer to stay awake. Then you arrive tired and sleep on Australia time.

Personally I would rather sleep away the 14 hours as much as possible, so I prefer the 'standard' timing.

I just did this for the first time on the weekend. I like it - even if I fly in J, the day after arriving in the morning is a write-off for me anyway, so I'd prefer to land in the evening and get a normal night's sleep.
