VA562 misses Sydney curfew but lines up for approach anyway

Hey - Slight tangent on topic - Im booked on a flight later this year...
If I had a PER->SYD on a VA booking, then a SYD->BNE->YVR on Air Canada (VA from SYD->BNE at 8:00 , AC from BNE->YVR at 11 ). Would I be able to board at BNE, given all Star Alliance ?
Not sure what you are asking here… are you looking to skip the PER-SYD flight, the SYD-BNE flight, or reroute it PER-BNE?

If you are not flying out of SYD you will need to change your ticket in advance of travel. If you miss the SYD-BNE leg the BNE-YVR leg will auto cancel as soon as you no-show for the SYD-BNE flight.

Sorry if I was unclear...
We are booked PER->SYD. (VA) Then SYD->BNE->YVR (AC). The SYD->BNE is booked through AC, but is VA flight
If it was diverted to BNE, could we NOT fly back to SYD, and jump on a plane and fly back to BNE ? Especially since the timing wouldnt work to be able to get from BNE->SYD to got on the specified 8:00 flight (First leg of SYD->BNE->YVR with AC)

they reslly need to get rid of the curfew. This is just insane, the wasted fuel and associated coats of an aircraft in the wrong city, crew out of position, accomodation costs etc etc. these things are so quiet when, when you compare to the old 707/727/dc9 and early 747s. Plus coming in over the bay, very few homes under them. Its just insane. Western sydney airport cannot open soon enough. Looking at Flightradar, it got pretty close but never slowed to landing speed anyway, but depends on how accurate FR is, as it shows zero feet 180 knots. So not very accurate by the looks.
You wouldn't be so keen on eliminating the curfew if you lived under either of the flight paths in, say, Newtown or Stanmore, believe me.

Good question.

Someone needs to intervene. Either yourself with a call to Aeroplan to short-segment the ticket, dropping the SYD-BNE sector. Or VA wouod need to somehow show the first sector as flown, or otherwise arrange with Aeroplan to reissue the ticket excluding the SYD-BNE. I don’t know if the latter is possible, but one of our travel agents may know?

Hiwever if the reason for the delay is outside VA’s control… weather or ATC… not sure how willing they will be to help.

And of course there’s no guarantee the flight will divert to BNE, I guess it could also go to MEL?

Yes - although the 2 times its diverted in the last 12 months have both been to BNE :) I only know this now because I have looked because of this flight. Otherwise I would have been in blissful ignorance.

VA isn't in Star Alliance.

See my other post. I did. At camperdown for years, loved the aircraft coming over and they were noisy back then, not like these whisper quiet jets of today. Hell even the F 27 made more noise than modern jets. I miss living there. I will happily swamp my tent in the ghetto for your newtown “villa” at newtown

Novotel I think - it was further away from Brisbane airport than numerous hotels are from Canberra Airport.
The Novotel is very close to the threshold of one of the eagle farm runways, it’s not their fault they moved the airport from Eagle Farm in the eighties ;)

But there are a dozen or more just a few minutes drive away. I stayed at a Brisbane Airport hotel last year, Novotel I think - it was further away from Brisbane airport than numerous hotels are from Canberra Airport.

There was supposed to be a train station there (SkyGate precinct) that was never built. Then they developed the multi story car parks and new hotels right at the terminal so now there isn’t enough demand.
